Pendine Sands in Wales was made famous in the 1920s as the home of land speed racing. Guys were running 170+mph chain driven. The local council allowed the VHRA to host an event and 90-something cars gave it their best.

For those who weren't there, after the third and final run, everybody stayed down at the far end of the beach and lined up for a mass rolling photo shoot. Nealie and the lad with the TV camera sat in the back of my truck and everybody followed for about a minute and then they all went flying past. Watching them all come past was as close to a religious experience I'll ever encounter.

Still on a high from this weekend, absolutely awesome world class event, and it happened right here in the UK, who'd a thunk we could muster a beach full of traditional machinery like this just a few years ago?

Thank you VHRA, quite simply, the best thing to happen to hot rodding over here for years.

Great pics! And that looks like Hotrodfil's T Touring...apparently it can race in a straight line as well.

I am at a loss as to why the two Pendine threads are not generating more traffic than they are getting...HELLO!

Maybe Ryan will put a light on this event...Traditional Hot Rods racing on an historical beach...

Well said Larry, I know the Hamb is a huge forum but sometimes think that the European stuff gets lost.May well be due to people not recognising the names of places or the events themselves.
VHRA is a name to look out for now, http://www.vhra.co.uk/VHRA/Home.html

I know the Japanese, the Swedish, Belgians, Germans, Dutch are all putting on some amazing traditional car based events and so many aren't static shows either. Top cars being driven, hill climbed, drag raced and now running in historic speed trials.
This is such an incredible time for all of us who enjoy hot rods and customs.

The best Hot Rod Event I have ever been to in the UK! I was at Bonneville a month ago and to be honest Pendine topped it for me..............think it was due to the fact I was racing my '32 five window!!!:D:D:D

That looked like fun. One of the finest group of rods pictured in a long time.
