What size wheels and tires? Man this truck is sweet!!

 

Thanks. Tires and wheels are:

Front: 16x4 1940 Ford wheels with 500/525-16 Firestone Deluxe Champions

Rear: 16x5 1941 Mercury wheels with 750-16 Firestone Deluxe Champions

The Mercury wheels are pretty rare.

 

Your truck looks neat tooling around in the meadow. It got me thinking, I wonder if the Ford assembly guys back in the day ever thought they looked better without the fenders, too? Gary

 

Thanks. I like it fenderless but I see trucks I like sometimes that are full fendered too. Always have the option to run them one day if I ever want a change.

 

Well, got it out of the backyard and took it out on the street today. Rides/steers good, driveshaft angle seems to be right on as there was no vibration on acceleration/decel. Ran through all the gears finally and it shifts great (thanks to Mac VanPelt for all the help/parts). Got it up to 50 mph and no wobble. All in all pretty good. Oh, did I mention its STUPID fast?

Thanks man. Had it out again today and it has a bit of a stumble off idle until I really get my foot into it. Noticed it a little yesterday. Yesterday I discovered that the accelerator pump on the center carb was sticking and wouldn't let it return to idle all the way. Popped the top and put another pump in. Not sure what's goin on now. I'm running the carbs progressive and wonder if maybe I should run all 3 direct instead. This is the first 3x2 if run with idle and rpm screws in all the carbs. It's gonna take some experimenting.

 

That's cool. I remember the first time I drove mine up an down the driveway, geeze it's been 26 years ago.

 

Wow, 26 years, cool. Feels like I've been working on this one for that long, lol. Yeah it was cool. As I said, some carburetor issues to sort out but overall it was good.

 

I'll bet that if you posted more video, or maybe a few more pictures,
nobody would complain too much. Just sayin'

 

Hahahahahaha, I'm going to take it out today and try to sort my carb issues. I'll see what I can do.

 

Just scored this 36 dash for free!! Can't stand the "32 roadster style dash" I bought from some parts place. Just didnt like it. Plan to use a 5" 36 dodge speedo with curved glass I have with some Stewart Warner's.

 

Free? That's awesome! Way to go!!!

Well, not exactly free but no $$. I'm helping an older guy sell a bunch of 36 ford parts. He offered to cut me in on the profits. I said, well I'd like to have the dash. He said deal. Works out for us both.

 

Last ride of the summer. Going to take it apart to fix the body. I could have done this all day. Damn I love hot rods.

Great build, really nailed the look. I was curious where you got those cast front wishbone mounting plates ? Are they cast?

 

They are SP (Speed Products) pieces from the late 50's. There is someone on eBay that repops them. These are originals though. Yes they are cast, aluminum. I like the way they look but I think I'm going to back them with 1/8" steel plate to be safe.

 

Well, got to taking it apart last week. It was hard to do since it took so long to get it to the point where I could drive it. Short health update, was mis diagnosed and treated for something I didn't have for 2 years! Saw specialist and feeling like a new man. Anyway, need to fix the metal on the cab and change some small stuff on the chassis, wire and fuel line routing, stuff like that. Then the chassis will go into the trailer for the winter while we straighten the cab out. I'm going to run around in it next summer in primer and work out the bugs. Paint next winter. I'm kinda biased but I just really dig how the chassis and drive train turned out. Here's a few pics.

Well, the chassis is in the trailer for the winter while I work on the cab sheet metal / floor. The box is rock solid, thank god, because there's enough to keep me busy with the cab. Just some random pics.
