I'm glad to see it's still chugging along.

  3. When I saw this truck for sale on the bay a while back I posted a thread on it as soon as I spotted it and it got deleted just as fast. I was also really into this thing. I remember buying the magazines as a kid back when it was a fresh build. Neat truck!

Wow, just found this thread for the first time, cool to see it being restored. I remember laughing my ass off when I read the PHR pickup with a weeny 4-71 blown 350 had spanked it!

The article in Street Rodder telling the tale is short, considering how much work they did on the car. I remember thinking power to weight ratio would decide the winner. And that flame job STILL sucks.

Absolutely. Its a survivor car, built by someone well known, and was a magazine car, so it definately has "pedigree" and should be restored. And that was considered the "hot" style for flame jobs in the mid-seventies. I guess if we are going to keep the unwashed masses happy, it should be jacked way up in the air with faux spindle mounts...:rolleyes:

Thank god the current "custodian" gets it...

Cool! Neat to see this one coming back.

  16. How did the rear end work, it looks like a solid mount but I see shocks in another picture. Sub frame hinged at the front?

It had a blown big block Chevy originally, like it does now. The sub frame had a pin at the front. In the pics of the body, you can see a "?" painted on the body. That is where the pin is. You would pull the pin and the whole frame would slide back, drivetrain and all!!

Was the Lil Red Wagon not set up in a similar fashion, ie; a separate subframe assembly for the drivetrain?

  20. How do you have that much head room with the chopped top? When you lower the front of the truck don't the wheelwells have to be raised?

I'll check the magazines, but I don't think any work was done on the front wheel wells. I know the rear ones were stretched and moved back.

  22. Just wondering because on my econoline if you lower it much you have to raise the wheelwells up for tire clearance . Now that I look back at the pics the front doesn't seem to be lowered that much.

It's alive!!!!! I went for a ride in it today! I need to figure out how to upload the video and I will put it on here. It is lacking a few details, mainly, the tonneau cover. It looks like it will be ready in time to take it to the Goodguys show in Scottsdale next week!:D:D
