  1. I'd say it's the "big sleep" for the guy in the front seat of this '57 Ford. I see bullet holes....and the slumped over driver....

Good eye ... I had looked at this photo earlier but didn't notice the guy in the car and the blood on the seat back. Another cold case ??

Before he painted the red stuff on the car, Dyno went out cruising Colorado Blvd in Pasadena looking for some dumb hot rodder he could chose off at the stoplight. That dumb hot rodder was me, in my Olds-powered roadster, but didn't recognize Dyno when he pulled alongside and asked "that thing beat sedans?" My buddy said "sure, old man," so it was a done deal. So we took off and before I had entered the crosswalk Dyno was already showing me his taillights...and the really bad thing that it was in front of Bob's ... it was the secret first showing of the 409 that he introduced at the then-pending Winternationals, but before the blew off every one else, I was his first victim.

Exactly, those sandals suggest 60's fashion. The movie Cleopatra with Liz Taylor could have something to do with it.

Image search turned up the victim's name, and Google turned up this (dated January 7, 1960):

Found an image from French eBay of the coroner and a deputy showing the bullet hole in Skally's hat:

Here's a real kicker: He had earlier served three years for making and distributing counterfeit $10 and $20 bills. My mother was a bank teller in the Chicago area back in the '50s and spotted a fake twenty one day at work - wonder if it was one of Skally's?

Douglas DC-3B Skysleeper (the little windows above the airline name are for the sleeper berths) NC17317. Commandeered by the the U.S. Army Air Force as a C-49B June 8, 1942 and given the serial 42-56621, its military career lasted only 16 days before it was written off in a midair collision over Camp Williams, Wisconsin.

The original poster on Flickr is from France and the original post says:

Found photo. Back says : 'Biarritz, août 1948'

We're talking post war seaside France here. Very daring for the time, I have no doubt in my mind it's 1940's, it just takes time for the rest of the world to catch up with the look.

It has become one of my favourite photo's, I think it's great.
