Decided to box a part of the frame where the bracket bolts down. Made 3 holes in the boxing plate to get acces to the bolts. The support bracket to the transmount is only tacked, gonna TIG weld it at work tomorrow. I aint trying to make everything as nice as possible because i want it to look like something that could have been made "back in the days".
Ok,this thread aint dead. Im waiting for my F1 steering box that being rebuilt. Hope to get it soon. Want the car driving againg this summer. Also gonna try some hubcaps that i can borrow from a friend so stay tuned!
Ok,the pitman arm is shortened and made to fit balljoint. Also want to thank "NealinCA" who was kind enough to send me a nut and lockwasher for the F1 box. Now i just need to make a new draglink that is alittle bit longer and a steeringwheel that fits the splines.
Ok,fixed my welder yesterday after having some trubble with the gas flow. Got all fired up and welded in some new metal to the frame were there was a cutout to clear the old F100box. Just need some primer and tighten the bolts to the new F1 box then its all done (i hope ) Old box and mount: The "new" F1 box:
Some minor updates. Been working on the angle of the front axle, did some cutting in the whisbones and got them tig welded today. Now the axle is 6 degrees. Also a friend of mine made som new bushings for the new "original" shackles because they dont fit aftermarket springs. So now i got new shackles, perches and front spring, the old one was worn out. Also did some work on the steering, cut the old F1 tube and welded on the top of the old tube to get the right fit to the steering wheel.
Also did some minor work on the firewall,i dont wanna change the car to much but this cutout has been on my mind for a long time. So i did something aboute it.
Coming along real nice, and the repairs/modifications will make it "your's". What is that cast coil bracket from? New one on me.
I dont really know,it came with the car. When i took it of the firewall i checked for som castings/brand name but found nothing, not even made in Japan Got som new shock mounts today, the old ones were welded really badly to the front axle. Gonna change to older nuts later to get a "older" look.
The old draglink doesent pass Tech inspection because its bent and welded together. The plan is to get it under the wishbones,i would need to drop the steering arms alot to do that. To avoid a heavy steeringarm drop i bought these dropped tie rod ends that drop 1-1/2. Just waiting for them to get here.
Two things, I used tie rod ends like those years ago to clear the radius rods on a t bucket and if I remember they were early 50's Ford. I took the windshield frame from my model A roadster to the chrome shop back in the mid 60's and when i went to pick it up, it had bowed just like yours from the heat or buffing. You've got a super roadster there.
