I just stumbled upon this picture of the Redding - Lajoie 1933 Ford 5 Window Coupe. Better known as the Blue Bird Special. In my opinion the baddest 33 Ford ever built. I've never seen this picture before so I thought I'd share.

I think I've seen photos of it in white and it was called "The Ice Box" at that time. Bob

I've always loved that car. Almost bought the Desoto grill once, too.

Bob, are you sure about that? I almost think the Ice Box and this Bluebird were both in some semi-famous match race in CT back when.

I know I read about that race in Ct, and the Ice Box was up against another locally famous coupe, I just don't know which car for sure.

The Ice Box was supposed to have had an early Cad first, then got the Nailhead at some point. It also ended up in bright (but a bit darker than the Bluebird)metallic blue at least in the mid? 60s and same paint into the very early 70s, when it was owned by a guy in my town.

I just found a front pic of it on hamb a few days ago, I will add it on this post if I find it. A small rear view pic is in Cool Cars/Square Rollbars. It was in the original White in that pic.
EDIT, here it is. Maybe someone can compare chops, etc? 2nd EDIT, there is no way the chops are the same, so I think they were 2 different cars. I know cars did get rechopped, but I think the Ice Box was around when the Bluebird was. I still think these two cars were in that race.

the car still exists...not in this form and is still in Mass I believe...the nose is untouched and displayed on a stand from the photo I saw, but the rest of the car is nowhere near the one it use to be...

These pics were recently posted on the HAMB, so I thought I would add them here.

You are right Chris. Skip LaJoie still has the nose off of the Blue Bird. The rest of the car still exists but is totally different. I would post a pic but you will not be happy.

What state did this car get ripped apart, or lose it's Y block?

The reason I ask; a very rare Y-block hilborn setup, complete with pump, showed up at a southeastern CT scrapyard maybe 2-3 years ago. Obviously, someone cleaning out an estate, and tossing everything.

The guy who found it says only 40 were made, so I wonder....:D

The "new" version isn't terrible. It's just not traditional... and it's sort of over the top - huge tires, blown SBC, 4-bar, etc... It's like a hot wheel. I bet my son would love it.

There is a '32 Roadster that was also featured in Cool Cars Square Roll Bars that WAS featured as a Hot Wheels toy after its Street Rod conversion. I'll find some then and now photos. Bob
