My Olds Used as Police Shield!

I had the day off yesterday. I was washing and waxing my Olds that morning and then went inside half way through for some lunch. When I went back outside later I saw three police cars in front of my house and several officers with guns drawn strategically positioned in my yard and the yards around mine. I turned around and went back in the house!

I walked to the back of the house and looked into my backyard where I saw this.

A few minutes later the swat team showed up.

The unconfirmed story is that a neighbor was having an epically bad day and had a rifle out. The standoff went on for about four hours. Pretty much the whole time this police officer was using my Olds as a shield and prop for his weapon. It was pretty wild.

I will say that I have absolutely the most respect for the police department and the often thankless service they provide. If a Police officer wants to use my car as a shield to protect themselves and the community be my guest.

The situation ended with no gunfire and the neighbor being taken to the hospital.

Having the first photo really made my day as it was proof to everyone I know that I didn't make the whole thing up.

  3. They KNOW yer Olds is "bullet proof" thats why....in reality tis prolly a safer shield than a newer car.....look at it this way,no harm done and a true story to tell all yer pals!!!!Love yer Olds by the by... lets see some more uvit!

  4. Glad everything turned out well,,the officers used restraint and the disturbed neighbor did likewise,,in cases like this no one knows what can happen.

Your Old's could have been ventilated. HRP

Glad things worked out for all. The cop needs a refresher in the difference between cover and concealment. The car doors are more concealment, the glass windows less so. The front tires and engine block are cover.

Wow. At first I thought what does that cop think he's doing near that car. Then it dawned on me. He's risking his lift to keep others safe. That's what he's doing by that car. Crazy story. Thanks for sharing.

Glad this had a safe ending for everyone and everything (your Olds). Usually in the movies when the cop says "Police emergency - I need your car!" it doesn't end well...

Glad you didn't run out screaming, "get the fuck away from my car". That would have been not so good.

You wouldn't need to buy those bullet hole decals !
I think bullet holes add character. My neighbor down the road gave me an old Hillman Manx that was perforated by drunk(?) weekend shooters! There was no drivers side window or mechanism left, but it got damn good mileage and curious looks! ("Are those bullet holes?")

Bizarre , that's a pic you can frame with a good result and no harm done. And bizarre that you were home to see it unfold.
