I've always wanted a henry j..this one was close to home and in my price range.october 2012 rashy and I headed to mustang okla.to pick it up. I didn't get started on it until jan this year. it was rough to say the least, I squared it up and started cutting.
after the floor was framed and the firewall was measured I started laying the sheet metal..this was my first time doing this..i bought a eastwood bead roller and borrowed rashys metal brake.
the front axle is a speedway kit with chevy spindles,a vega box.i mounted the brake pedals to the inside of the dash to keep the away from the heat and I like a clean firewall.
the roll cage bolts to the floor frames and has stingers that are welded to the frame .the seats also bolt through the floor frame work,
I narrowed a 9'' ford ,put a back brace on it and caged the center section where the third member bolts, this helps to keep the housing stiff. it has 350 gears, detroit locker, 31 spline shafts , explorer disc brakes, 1350 yoke. chris alston ladder bar kit with pan hard bar ,vari shock coil overs
Great looking start. A friend of mine is just getting started with his J I'm going to show him your pictures as his has no floor either. We've got my floor in with new rocker panels and mounted to the frame still LOTS of rust repair still to do. Thanks again for the pictures and keep them coming. Jim
I mounted the battery in the drivers side rear fender area, the kill switch runs through the trunk, also put the trunk lid on a diet. there will be a speedo in the dash as well
fuel cell is a 16 gl RCI, using a fram race filter with a aeromotive SS pump. the back and side windows are lexan,i added a 1/2 lip to the sides so the bolts have room. tail lights are 56 chevys ,used a universal socket and made a plate for it to attach. radiator and fans where made by saldana racing products, front shocks are Q1A adjustables (90/10s)
headers are patriot 55 chevys,,I added the 2 bolt ball and cone collectors, also had to "adjust" them a little..bent them inboard about an inch.
yep the hamb drags was the shake down... tomorrow putting a new gas pedal in that will fully open the back barrels.should go a bit faster...
Hey Bulletproof1, any more build pictures of your Henry J? Did you use somebody's roll cage kit? If so who's. Thanks
