:D The 235 is capable. Just need to let her breath! Probably less expensive than a V8.

Search this forum. Might give you insight for what best fits your situation.

Word is, a 235 can generate 400 horses with a turbo.

I might have to go with dual carbs if I can not get a single 2 bbl to work, since I have a spare motor I might try to make my own 2 bbl intake when I get bored during the winter months.

Mill the head .100". (Requires sinking the intake valves and shimming the rocker stands the same amount.) More power across the RPM range, more MPG, still looks stock. Petronix converter in stock distributor. Hi-Lift rocker arms (if you can find them!)

You can play with that 235 until your blue in the face, but a V8 is the only thing that will make that 37 perform.

Perform, well you would have to define that.

235, very mild cam, cleaned up ports, 390 4bbls or 2 two barrels, split ehx = 165 Net HP or so.

    Now that's about what a 15 more than a 283 had in 57 or a 305 in 77.

If I wanted a little more add a bit more cam, maybe 185 HP.

After that move on to V8, much cheaper even with the transplanting.

But if 283 power works, cheaper to fix up that 235.

Sorry hoop, 185 HP in your dreams. Even if it were true it would still be a slouch. I also believe your figures on the 1957, 283 is wrong. The engine in that 63 BelAir would put out 185 HP on 3 or 4 cylinders. Performance now thats what I'm talking about.

To compare a inline 6 to V8 in terms of performance and low investment is like apples and oranges. The OP DIGS the 6 and is finding combinations that fit his needs. Not others wants.

So you're claiming a '63 283 was good for 370 hp on all eight cylinders? Seems to me you're a bit high.

Maybe you ought to read the post by the OP again. Unfortunately your reading comprehension skills failed to pick up the fact he mentions a V8 swap.
I never said anywhere that the 63 BelAir has a 283 in it. It doesn't.

165 easy, have to push a bit for 185, man those 283 57's must have been super slouches...

    185 on 4 :) he's being funny :)~

57 283 made 150 net, at least thats what Chevrolet seemed to think:

Shoot, I don't, well sorry to say anyone who's been in a parts store in 30 years knows that!

Here's a nice one in pink, we should all be raising our awareness...

I like this intake, can have a plate made to mount a small 2 bbl and grind all the letters off for a more stock look. It has fentons on it now so I do not need to do anything with the exhaust.

Not sure on the 235, but I put a HEI distributor in my 250 for a total of around $80, smoothed out nicely, no worries about points anymore, just an idea.

One of these days I am going to send a extra 235 distributor to GMC Bubba to do his magic with.

Langdon makes an adapter for a 32/36 Weber to the stock manifold. Claims 10 HP increase at full throttle. http://stoveboltengineco.com/catalog/store/#!/~/category/id=361512&offset=0&sort=normal

You probably saw this on another thread, but Rich Wright posted this great pic of his 261 with a 94, also on an adapter by Langdon. He, too, claims significant power/mileage increase.
