Fauxtina paint job on a 63 Tbird

Long as we're looking at white T-brids.. My '64 at Lake Tahoe 25 years ago. Was my daily.

Looks cool. The paint job's patina fits the car. I've seen your other work and I'd consider it art.

Like----disc brakes behind Buick drums, Hemi valve covers on a 350 Chevy, radials that look like bias plys, fiberglass bodies, and bondo.

 

Like a sock down your pants at a singles bar.

 

I was with you up to bondo.

 

Like going to the hair club for men, or ordering Viagra.

 

Or combine them for that Don Jackson look.

 

That was probably a lot of fun to do and it's high school parking lot proof. Win win, and unlike real rust, you can sand it off in a few years and re-paint if you get tired of it.

 

I'd be happy to trade my real rust to anyone that wants the genuine article.

I think you're kind of missing the point Ed.
Guys are building cars to emulate their favorite styles and/or specific cars from the 50's or 60's,that over the course of 50 or 60 yrs,have become pretty rough around the edges to one degree or another.
Nobody built cars with "fake patina" in the 50's or 60's because A:
Some guys just builing for speed,and left the ACTUAL wear and patina on a 30's car they were constructing (which is kind of the early version of what some guys are "faking" now)
Or B:
The cars were built up to be current,competetive race cars at the time,just like a Pro Mod car would be now,and at the time,those guys were not trying to replicate any era,they were just building the fastest race car they could afford.They guys now replicating this era ARE trying to emulate something from the past.
I know you don't like it,as many don't.My Dad hates this stuff too.
But as a guy who never got to be around for the heyday of hot rods/drag cars back in the 50's/60's,I DO like this type of thing,as it gives me a chance to feel like I'm catching it the second time around...know what I mean...?

Look Ed,the guy did a stellar job making this crusty old Bird look like a long forgotten circle track car.There is no question about that.
Now you have the choice to either acknowledge his hard work and talent and compliment him,or let everyone know you disapprove.You chose the latter.
Just because it is not your cup of tea,doesn't make it bad or wrong.
And because I am definitely diggin' it,doesn't mean that ALL cars shall henceforth be painted in this style....

There are hundreds of threads here where people build cars (let's say a traditional style post war car or gassers) to immulate the way they were. So that's all fake? Hell this whole website is based of FAKE cars then isn't it?

 

That paint job is awesome.. I really like it a lot...and appreciate the talent required to make it look that way....

This attitude is like a Participation Trophy from kid's soccer. Guys were are volunteering information and some of you want to correct them. From your perspective, of growing up in the '80s. Wrong. Weird theme cars were not rods and customs. They were just people's odd ideas, expressed upon some poor old car. If you really believe that was how it was in the sixties, someone has been peeing on your leg and telling you that it's raining. Those were wonderful years. You are not allowed to redefine them. You weren't there. Try to understand that revising history is wrong. Have fun with cars. Create your own memories. This is the time for it. And, in 50 years, when someone says things that are inaccurate about the time of your youth, you'll see what we mean.

Bottom line is:I like the work this guy has done.You (and anybody else) have as much right to NOT like it as I have TO like it.
What you DON'T have ,is the ability to tell me what I CAN or CANNOT enjoy....It's kinda cool how democracy works like that,isn't it...?

Anyway,nobody wants a pissing match here,a few of us commented that we liked the car,and I for one didn't enjoy taking flak for stating that I enjoyed this car.

Celebrating the fake is part of today's culture. I'm not very comfortable with it but I'll be gone soon enough.

At a cruise-in when somebody complements the "patina" on my truck and asks how I achieved it, I'll say "I didn't do anything. I'm just currently too underfunded to fix it.

personally love the look of this car. You've done an exceptional job of re-creating the right amount of wear and tear that the body would normally have. In the end, you did exactly what the customer asked for and you can tell by the look on her face that she's very happy with the result

I'm starting on a faux patina paint job on my 56 pickup next week. I want the worn look but still have to protection of a full paint job.

 

Haha!I've got a '66 (o/t) Ford that has about 20yrs of natural crust,wear,and "patina" on it....a couple of young guys called it a "Barn Find" recently,and when I began laughing they said "whats so funny?"
I replied: "It was in our shop,not a barn,so it wasn't really lost,and I just never had the time or money to get it back together til now...it just looks this way from bitter reality"...lol

 

Look,I apologize if I have offended anyone by standing up for my right to have an opinion about this car.
