Oldnuts, I'm running black walls on my 292. If we both do it and start a trend, it will be correct.

I have a rat rod that I drive a lot. Where can I order RWR tires? Rust wall radial tires?

 

I would run white walls on the passenger side and black walls on the drivers side. Have the best of both worlds.

Ya gotta love it. Some guy who probably wasn't born at the time in question becomes a keyboard Rambo and starts a drama thread. He then finds he has dug himself one big hole and fallen into it when those who were around at the time prove him wrong. So he posts again, backpedaling furiously trying to climb back out of the hole but only sliding in deeper.

Seems like the Hamb has become a soapbox for people who weren't around at the time to rewrite history and preach to those who were there 'how it really was' because they learned it all from the interweb and magazines with sometimes equally clueless editors.

I know I will get ripped for this but my father 71 years old said by 1960 the white walls were getting smaller and smaller he had 2 inch ww on the car he built in 1959. He told me all the kids back them wanted smaller ww the 3 inch and bigger were 50's style or found on your fathers car. That was in Wisconsin I don't know about east coast or west coast at that time.

The OP is correct, there are a lot of bad combinations running around today. Regardless of how the 'his car' crowd feels. And those cars are showing up here nearly everyday.

 

This translates to $2,546 in 2013 money ... a smokin' deal when you figure it was a nearly new performance engine (for its' time) with a lifetime of bragging rights. Not many of us can say that we have a real Cobra engine that was purchased from directly from Shelby.

I was wondering why I started reading this thread until I came upon Deuce Daddy Don's excellent history lesson (with pictures, no less!!). I vote for more contributions like this and fewer "experts" trying to tell us how our cars are supposed to look.

 

I don't care for wide whites but this Shelby receipt .... Now that is cool

^^^as I said - wasn't even born at the time in question but is telling the older guys 'how it really was' - pure genius!

 

I always thought that Hot Rodding was about building a car with a pile of parts from different cars. All parts that YOU like that serve YOUR purpose. If your building a car with a THEME then you have a whole other set of do's and don'ts. But either way it's still your car. Build it however you want.
