Projects Recreating the jesse lopez coupe

Jesse said that he had two different type's of shocks on that rear axle. A stock set and a set of coilover's. There was a big struggle to ID these things until hotroddon (post #98) said that they were overload shocks. Thanks much Don.

I told this guy he was going to be famous. This was many months ago. I've forgotten his name.

 

Hey Fort Worth guys. I'm looking for a helper, I'm thinking a body shop prepper/helper type. With kids out of schools right now this should be a good deal. Doesn't have to be a kid, should have some "car" skills, good work ethic etc.. I will pay waaay over minimum wage.

 

Maybe I'll take a leave of absence from work, that sounds like fun.

 

Wish I had the time Jer. Would love to get my hands on this one.

I learned on Jr's car that with cars this age its best to just replace those gas tanks.

We move to the other end.

 

Great progress on this car , and will be a rousing finish up....What's next?

Reversed spring eye's for front axle.

Chassis at Norm's for axle assy and brakes. Norm saved my life on Jr's car. He's in the neighborhood at the end of my street. A true (and talented) friend.

Along with the gas tank we replace all the brake cylinders. It turns out we have big Lincoln brake cylinders on the back. It took a long time to find these things. Thanks Dick Spadaro.

 

Norm dealing with frozen perch bolts. Oh, what fun. Just one of the reasons that I didn't want any part of this.

I think the 29 ford body is like a horseless carriage compared to the Lopez coupe. But that chassis, at least outwardly, doesn't look much different than a model A or B. Wishbones, banjo rear end, etc.

 

We don't have the tools to take this frozen assy (king pins/spring perch's) apart. There's an old time automotive business here in town that does these things.

 

I remember bringing in my kingpins to the machine shop at work. The shop foreman put it in one of those presses, where you press a button and you can hear the pressure building up. Anyway, the machine keeps chugging and chugging. Nothing happening. The foreman, covered his eyes, turned away from the machine, so I did the same. Eventually the kingpins came out after what sounded like a cannon going off!

 

OK, now we got it together and the steering arms hit the axle. Oh yeah, this is fun.

 

I'm understanding why everyone channeled their cars in those days.

 

I had to go back to Nostalgia Sid's (droppedaxle.com) for the dropped steering arm's. Sid helped with the perch bolts as well as with the axle. Just up the road in Oklahoma. A life saver and very quick on the trigger (service).

The axle is a 2" drop. The 8" was the rear. When everything goes together we'll be looking to see how it all works out compared to the pics.
