A friend of a friend just bought this late '50's/early '60's build from the widow of the man who bought it from the original owner/builder. Supposedly, it was from the Chicago area, and won a Best In Show at a Chicago show in the early '60's...

It was garaged shortly afterwards, until it was sold to a gentleman here in Michigan in 1979, where it was again garaged, until my buddy's friend bought it a couple weeks ago.

He's looking for any info on the car, like the original builder's name, any pics from any car shows it may have been in...anything. He wants to document as much as he can.

If anyone recognizes it, he'd appreciate any info...thanks

I'd bet the original hot rod build was very early 50's since it has that Auburn dash. Might have been modified again later obviously, but I doubt an Auburn dash would have been used in the late 50's or early 60's.

Yes sir, that would make sense...I think the wheels and tires may have been a later update...

He was able to buy it REALLY cheap...he's working on getting it running, and fixing the clutch, as it's locked up...

  12. Get it running with the rear end jacked up, get the tires spinning, dump the jack and when the tires hit the dirt she should break free.

Thank you for posting such a well preserved time machine. This is what a HAMB version of a a 'Pro's Pick' should be.

Start by dating the pieces that you think are original.

    - the intake and carbs are 57/58 Olds J2

-the valve covers if painted, were part of the Olds Dealer Nascar hop up kit available to some racers starting during 57 and at least to 58. If the covers are plated, those are the painted covers purchased from GM, as obsolete after the Nascar stuff was no longer used, and Isky bought them all and plated them for resale to rodders.

-Look for a large raised one or two digit number at the center exhaust port above the manifold. That will date the heads at least. And look for a stamped serial number on the exposed deck surface of the block near the edge of the head. That will tell the eng block date.

-what trans? Ford, Cad, LaS, etc.. A stick trans 57 up motor is kind of rare, as the A/T cranks were not drilled for a pilot.

-I just bought a east coast rod saturday and my steering wheel looks the same. Hamb ID'd as 56 Ford.

That car rocks. I think that is a very well planned build for that era. Nice find

I can't believe with all of the Hambers in the Chicago area that no one recognizes this roadster. Maybe this hasn't been posted long enough so there is still hope some information will surface. Keeping fingers crossed.

Definitely built in the 50's It looks like there are dual temp. gauges. Probably used to have a flathead in it. It also looks like the color of the body used to be seafoam green.

Great find, hell yeah, that´s the holy grail! I´m about sure I have seen pics of this car exposed on an eastcoast carshow in one of my little pages from the late 50s. Olds Rocket with J2 manifold, channeled 29 roadster , white and metallic red plus the rather big space between the engine and the radiator are landmarks. Maybe it had chrome steelies and wide whites back then...The mags are still boxed up and stashed away because I moved into another home not too long ago. Looks like it´s time to unpack them:)
I only have custom illustrated, custom rodder and rod and custom mags from that aera, maybe that helps to narrow it down a bit.

Bad ass to the bone. That's a dream; finding a survivor like that.
Go through the mechanicals, clean it up and drive it. Don't change a thing.
