  1. I found these excellent photos in the Canadian Govt. photo archives. This is Canada's oldest car club, and owner's of Mission Raceway. The flag starter is listed as Jack Williams".

You may know Jack lives in Aldergrove now, just east of Langley. Has a small museum of his cars etc there.

It's always cool to see some "local" history.

  8. Yes, although I have yet to get out there. Such an incredible wealth of BC motor sport history, belongs to Jack Williams, and the BCCCA.

So NOT the same Jack Williams that was involved w/Goodguys and Famosa Raceway? Thanks for the clarification.

Don, those pics look like Abbotsford airport. I think photo 4 is facing south, #5 is east? And yes, the flagman is Jack. Did you see the old Hot Rod magazine pics I posted of his '49 ford on the "favorite local customs" thread?
They held drags and road races there, my dad raced bikes at abbotsford airport in the fifties, before Westwood was built. These look to be mid-fifties.

  12. Ya, Jack has some cool stuff tucked away in that shop in Aldergrove. If anybody is in the area and has a chance they should check it out.

I have been a member of the BCCCA coming up 25 years now.
Jack is a member as well, along with being our official club historian.
He's a great guy with tons of interesting stories.

If you do, take some pics and post them here. Also would be good to hear more about the involvement of Jack Williams with hotrodding in BC. He is a legend in these parts.

Keith has a few stories...And a few photos from when they were building the original Mission track as well. Maybe when he gets back on his feet, we can talk him into posting some of them.

If we are talking about Keith as in PG 409, you are right, we have got to get him posting more here. He has a lot of good stuff to say.

George is reffering to Hemiduece on the board.
He is still an active member of BCCCA, and was the starter for the dragstrip back in the day.

The Syndicate Scuderia, I''ve seen this dragster make a number of exhibition passes at the Sechelt airport drags. Jack himself was the driver a few times but last time it was there a couple of years ago his daughter took over the wheel and did pretty good considering, the runway surface is pretty crappy to hook up on, lol. That car is a work of art, was it ahead of it's time with that enclosed cockpit?

I remember seeing a photo of his digger in Car Life when I was learning to read! SS34 you are on the island, right?
29bowtie and Rocket88 and I know each other, maybe we should try to organize a southern BC HAMBers meet & greet sometime at an event next year. Who's gonna hit the "Tom The Tire Guy" deal on Mothers Day?

  22. I wouldn`t leave it too long. I was there a few weeks ago, and although Jacks memory was razor sharp, he was really looking old and frail. Certainly a local legand.

I live about two minutes from Jacks place and drive by about 6 times a week. I cant seem to time it right as every time I have a chance to stop there is no one there. I have peeked in the window a few times and there are some killer cars there with what looks like a ton of history.

Anyone else notice the hot rod neon sign in the last picture, post #1. Now that is cool.

I actually wound up working in that building years later, when it was Dix Performance in the late seventies/early eighties. Unfortunately the neon Cal-Van sign was already long gone.
