Nice Poncho! What motor and trans are you running? I seem to remember some of these had a 4 speed in them.

 

The motor is a 389 as far as the trans I'm not really sure it's stock I know that.

I have to admit this is one of my all time favorite threads on the hamb,,who would have thought so many hard core hot rodders would have a thing for wagons. HRP

 

Possibly because so many of us rode in them as kids? I can even remember not wanting to drive my dads '62 Plymouth wagon near my high school because I didn't want to be seen driving "the parent's car" but I'd love to have one of those wagons today.

 

Back when I started dating my wife her grandmother would let me borrow her wagon on occasions to haul our band equipment,,much easier than stuffing a big amp in a Falcon and the other guys stuff,,the wagon was a necessary evil in the mid 60's.

I grew up in the back of a sedan delivery and later on a wagon,my dad was driving a wagon until he passed away.

Today,that '54 "Ranch Wagon" that belonged to Mamma Jessie is now back on the road and we have been having a ball. HRP

 

I followed your build on the '54, quite the work of art! Many years ago a friend had a '54 Country Squire with the fake wood grain and all. When he sold it I couldn't afford to buy it. Darn!

 

Mine too. My first car was a 1954 four door ford wagon. Man I miss that thing! Since then I've always had a soft spot for wagons.

 

Wagons have ALWAYS been cool. Some people just take longer to figure this out than others...

 

ive not always liked them..but when I saw a 57 nomad with fatties and skinnies im kinda fell in love with them.took a long time to accept them .ive had mine for around 5 yrs. love it. but it is a 2 dr.still workin on liking 4 drs.lol

 

Actually not so. When I was a teenager in the late '60s-early '70s those of us who had to drive them were kinda embarrassed, but if that what was all that we could drive, then thats the way it was. Funny thing is, my second car in 1972 was a 1968 Toyota two door wagon. Man did I want to put a 327 in that thing!

 

One of my uncles gave me a worn-out 57 Chevy Two-Ten wagon about the time I turned 14. It ran, but the clutch was on it's last legs. Straight six. Sort of a lavender exterior with a white top. I did not think it was cool, but it was mine. My folks handed down to me a 59 Ford Custom 300 2dr Sedan six cylinder 3-spd. My dad took over the Chevy wagon. At that time, I thought the Ford Sedan was much more cool than the Chevy wagon.

I sure don't feel that way now.

 

I stand by my statement. Just because you didn't realize it was cool at the time, doesn't change the fact that it was cool. I was never embarrased to be seen in or to drive my Dad's '68 Town & Country with a 440.

 

Some folks like them and others don't. I've always been a fan of station wagons. I've also always liked 4 door cars better than 2dr, even though 2dr hardtops is what everyone talks about. I think most folks did not consider wagons to be cool since they are family vehicles and associate it with being stuck with mom & dad (or kids). Dunno - my parents never had a car at all. I just like that square look. Tailgates & folding back seats are nice for utility.

at the GG show this weekend, I found my holy grail. something I have wanted for as long as I have loved woodies. one of the rarest models (one yr only). If anyone knows of one available (complete or project) please let me know...
