There are two different distinct heads. The cylinder spacing and even the combustion chambers are different. The GMC Wayne and other early era heads will ot even bolt onto a Chevy 235 or 261. The heads for those are few and far between. If you want to, contact Mike Kirby at Sissell's in West Covina. In my book he a Glen Self in Durant, OK are the GM OHV head guru's. I have one of each. normbc9
I don't think it was ever thought that the GMC head and the Stovebolt head were the same. I think everyone realizes they are 2 entirely different engines.
Still in planning, research for foundry, parts sourcing etc. Seemed much simpler until starting to work out those seemingly minor details. Will post when and if a entire package is available. Thanks to all who have lend their expertise and experience pointing to the right people and resources.
I imagine that they will be for the later 53-62 235/261 engines. There are far more of them around and they are already full pressure. However if the OG molds are used, they would have to be used for the 37-53 engines. If that is the case too bad you swapped that babbit pounder and sent to scrap yard. it is hard enough to find a gmc 302 or chev 261 block anymore but a 216 or early 235? We will all be waiting for the results. oh, and saving our pennies, cause it won't be cheap.
Pictured is a complete 12 port setup for sale. Note the down turn exhausts. But I saw many with a individual tuned exhaust system that produced more power and better breathing. The Ike Iacono 302 GMC 12 port Roadster would out run the downturn systems frequently at LADS. Normbc9
Is this still for sale? I recall seeing this photo before. Attached copy of an original WAYNE Brochure.
I think that set was sold a few years back. It was everywhere. I think the asking price was 15k. It's been at least 2 years since I saw the adds listing it for sale. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
38wayne, thank you for that catalog. I've been looking for catalogs for my inline speed parts archive. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Congrats! Well done. I'm learning myself how much time and tedium goes into contracting to make a simple part, never mind getting foundries and machine shops involved. If everyone knew how much hassle goes into projects like this, they'd realize its amazing there's an aftermarket industry at all! Keep hammering away... this is a cool, cool project. -Brad
Right click, save in the archive. I have an original Wayne rocker cover. It is in very poor condition. It would be nice to get another! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Still moving forward. Had a small batch (10) of Valve and Side covers produced as well as a test for an intake. Intake pattern needed repair and is very difficult to work with and time intensive according to the foundry. See attached photos. I will make the parts I currently have available to anyone FINISHING a project. I can not give a timeframe for complete heads and valvetrain.
wow....posted back in 2013....the uncle's T based lakester he ran in 1954/55 at B'Ville and again his motor in 1956 in another "contraption" lakester - the 1956 car is in the Moon book....they all ran his motor with the GMC Wayne head.....think it's now running in a dragster that's been posted on here......
I believe that there has been little activity on the 12 port front, at least publicly. Dunno whats been going on behind thr scenes. There may have been some activity, but being a one-man show, it is not an easy task to get all elements sorted and to market.
