The '65 Grill looks good. HRP

 

Wow good eye, I had forgotten I even used the grill out of the 65 parts truck I had. The grill and the gauge cluster were the only parts that made it out of the ol girl before she was parted out.

don't quite remember, but i think it was from airbagit. It had a hammer tone grey paint job on the parts.

 

So I decided to get rid of the rear roll pan. It kept dragging on driveways and was all beat up. First part was to cut the dang thing out.

now there is some body work that is needed!

 

I picked up a 1964-72 rear styleside bumper in great shape for less than it cost to ship it from colorado



Also the roll pan looks worse when it was finally out of the truck

 

The bumper also came with the original bumper brackets, they just needed some cleaning up and a new coat of paint

 

mocked the whole thing up. I'm really digging the new stock look, just need to get it powder coated black.



just a little adjustment and some body work and it will be perfect

 

got the panel straightened out as much as I could then fabbed up a cover piece to make it look good as new

 

picked up these cool little pieces to finish off my mirrors, just need to send them off to the powdercoaters with the bumper

 

got it back and put it on, final for now

 

The truck is coming out Bitchin!! I just picked up a 65 longbed and i will be stuffing a 401 Nailhead into it and will be my new shop truck (pics coming soon) may i ask what did you pick for rolling stock for your rig? tire and wheel sizes and such... Having a bit of a time trying to realy pin point that on my truck. looks great.

 

Thanks for the kind words.....The rear wheels are the stock ones that came with the 66 believe they are 15x7, fronts are 15x8 (because i messed up on measuring them when i ordered) from summit racing. They are from wheel vintiques and because i didn't change the bolt pattern on the firebird clip, they are still the 5 on 4 3/4. Had them all powder coated gloss black and put Coker classic www, g78's, on it.Hope this helps.

 

You say this and then put a SBC in it?

I know I know, but once gain the price was right. Fresh rebuilt 350 with a mild cam and gear drive plus a new turbo 350 with a b&m shift kit, 0 miles on everything, still in build bag, all for $800.........

 

Granted yes a SBC in a ford is sacreligous, BUT the man has a point.... we all (or most of us) have to work on a budget and to me a rig rollin down the road with the "wrong" motor some say is a heck of alot better than lookin at a paper wieght in the shop with no motor... And thanx for the info on the rolling stock... it does help.

Awesome Build thread! truck looks great I just picked up F100 yesterday and I've been doing research on how to install the air bags your thread was very helpful I also have zero welding skill as of now so this should be interesting I'll have to do some practice on some other things before I attempt it on the truck.

 

Thanks, This truck is the first thing I ever welded on. I'm no expert, hardly even a novice welder now but I am way better than when I started, and everything is holding up. I suggest buying a lot of flap disks! They make a ugly weld look ok until you can get the roll of nickles that so many on here can do with ease. Good luck!!
