Hi all! I have a'48 chevy coupe with a 305/350 combo. Recently replaced a homemade tranny crossmember and raised the tranny 2-3". Now, the idle is smooth as usual but when put into gear the motor bogs and stalls if allowed.... The only thing that I think was effected was the shifter linkage. Any thoughts?? Mack
Make sure the distributor cap isn't making contact since you raised the trans. Do a stall test, should be able to go over 1500 against the brake. if not the converter overrunning clutch is bad.
I installed the carb a month or so ago, ran super from 1st start. would that angle change cause a float problem? possibly an air/fuel mixture change would help? Thanks, Mack
Vac line from tranny is connected. was runnin great.... I'm stumped as to why the angle change has made a diff. I could understand if it was grinding/screeching as if something was bound or rubbing against something else but....
Compression check. Make sure all cylinders are makin power. Either a plugged idle circuit, or the engine is tired... A hell of a carb angle if the engine is tilted to far forward, you might need jet extensions in the front???? Is it a Holley? try raising the float level in the front bowl.... That would be a hell of a lift...
Could the distributor have contacted the firewall and changed timing a bit when the cross member swap took place?
Hey guys, Sorry, I got a bit sidetracked.... I pulled the plugs and found one was fouled very bad with an oil leak from the rear corner of the valve cover. changed the plugs and the cover gasket & she's back in business. The carb I think still needs to be tuned a bit due to the new angle but, NOT bogging when in gear now. THANK YOU GUYS!!
