1937 Ford Coupe build

I think you screwed up. Wooden headliners are coming back into vogue !

I love 37's, especially coupes. I remember one from when I was growing up, it was done hot rod style, was yellow with mags, and was very cool. Yours will make a nice car when done.

I'll post some pics later tonight of the beauty job on the flip front and what a mess I'll have taking it apart, you guys will also get to see the real fancy banana yellow SBC that's in it. Bet you can't wait.

 

That is a killer body style and look forward to seeing what you do to her!

 

Here's some more pics of lousy fabrication, I'll have my hands full undoing the damage and making this right.

The flip front on the 37; the 1x1 tubing goes right through the front fenders, guess it doesn't matter because they are f'd and beyond saving.







Probably the best fabrication in this whole car, a home made grill. Sorry but it still sucks and will get replaced with new.



Here's where the tear down will give me grief, they welded the fenders solid to the cowl, good thing they are f'd and nothing a plasma can't get off.



They also bondo'd the hood to the hood sides, I'm hoping it's just tacked and bondo'd over so it's easier to seperate, the hood is in mint condition. Judging from the bondo that is showing on the inside of the hood and side I would guess it's only tacked. Sandblasting will tell the truth and help me find the seam so that I can salvage the hood.



Looks like they cut the frame a bit, I'm not sure on how much since I've never played with a full fendered 37 before. Maybe someone who has can tell me if there's still the appropriate room to mount the fender braces when I change it back to the way it should be????????





Here's the banana yellow small block, it's complete and turns freely at the crank. I checked the oil and it's full and clean, also checked the rad and it's full and the fluid looks good. Maybe I'll get lucky and salvage it. Thinking I'll hot wire it and see if it fires over summer holidays. Don't know if I'll use it but it would make for a fun day. It's got duel exhaust with a set of glass packs, wondering if this was actually a driver at some point.

Well it appears the car is now in good hands. I wonder what kind of cabinets they were going to hang in the interior oak or cherry? (Sorry I could not resist.)

I saw that ad and emailed the seller. The frame under mine looks not bad but it wouldn't hurt to have a backup. Thanks for posting that.

No worries, it was going to be replaced anyway with something else, just not sure what yet.

 

My hat's off to you guys that are willing to take someone else's f-edup project and re-do it.

I have a dash from a 53 mercury sedan, no pod cluster though. it may look cool in there.

Taking the 37 to sandblast tomorrow, guess I'll find out what is under all that bondo once and for all. Heading to Spokane for the swap this weekend so even though I won't be getting to this build for awhile thought it was a good chance to blast it and see what I'm up against and if anything maybe I'll find some more parts for it in Spokane. I'll be rubbing the bare metal down with Gibbs penetrant so it doesn't flash rust and tarping it once I get it done. Will post some pics of what's under there tomorrow.

I'm renting time at Consolidated Compressor and doing it myself. I have edited my earlier post as it came out sodablast and should have read sandblast.

Make sure you tell them to relieve your pressure then, they have it way too high for sheetmetal.....

Thanks for the tip. I used them before on smaller parts but never a car body.

 

Also don't blast a panel from the inside that has x-bracing or any unclear access to the whole panel, it tends to warp if you do.
