RE: The "ALCAN" highway.....it is my understanding that this refers to the piece of road from Dawson Creek, BC to Delta Junction, Alaska. :)

Go buy a Mig welder and weld the sleeve on yourself in your hotel room or at a shop with a lift. toss it in the back and bring it on the road. you might need it again. or go find some angle iron and drill some holes to build your own strut bar. (just keeps the A Arm from moving doesn't it).

Quick update: Bob & Maggie buzzed over from Whittier this afternoon (roughly 2-1/2 hour drive but some very nice weather for it) and they're now patched up and back on their way.

Easy enough fix, and while not the prettiest patch I've ever done, it'll more than hold 'til the proper replacement part gets in and can be installed.

I'll have a couple of pix up as soon as I have a place to host 'em. :D

Bob, Maggie, great meeting you, glad you could stop by, and glad I could be of help. :D

    Doc.

[edit] Duh, I forgot I can post a photo right here. :D

    Doc:

Thanks a ton dude, you are the man!!!!!! I checked it out when we got back to Whittier and it is still good, I'm sure that it will last untill we can replace it.

Was great shooting the breeze with you and your dad also. If you ever get back to Wisconsin be sure to look us up.

Update on the broken Strut Rod.

As detailed in the above 2 posts we got a temporary fix from Doc.

Now the next thing that we need.

I got it handled, my parts guy back home had them on the shelf along with the bushings, he is next day airing them to the B&B we are staying at in Anchorage.

I got into Whittier about 2pm and went right to Doc's Machine in Kenai and he welded it up. Works great now.

All that remains is to find a place in Anchorage with a hoist and some air tools, should only take an hour or so to change it.

Doc did a nice job, as you can see it is ground and butt welded at the break, it was broken completely off. The other piece is just for a little added strength.

when you finally get home, you best take the body back off and re-detail the frame and susp. that is looking awfully dirty.

It's hot rod history, just more like 'ol dads deuce than a showcar. Lol I remember seeing bob's car in rod 'n custom when I was in high school, in that competition that used to have where they made guys do an auto cross, a drag strip pass, and something else. I think bob, the green grenade, and don Dillard were all in the competition that year and I thought those guys were all so cool for driving these cars and beating on 'em.

This DID NOT have a 302 in it.

And right across the big open field was a gourmet restaurant.

On the way up the river to Haines Junction the Canadian Fisheries had an Interesting device set up on the river to catch fish and funnell them into a holding tank, then in the morning they come and empty the tank and weigh and measure the fish. They were kind enough to show us a nice one.

We don't have Jay's like this at home in Wisconsin, I think it's a Stellar's Jay.

    Looking good Bob.

  28. Stellars Jays are bold little buggers. On nice days we'd leave the cabin doors open and they'd come in and steal food. The bald eagles and oyster catchers would squabble and make a racket all the time they were nesting.
