Projects Sam's 32 sedan build thread

I started on this car when I was a senior in high school (i'm 21 now). It started out as a model a coupe on 32 rails project, until my good friend Dave mentioned he had a 32 sedan body behind his shop. So with the help of my parents I was able to snag it. I'm fortunate to have a family that is really into hot rods. I always get a lot of help from my dad (Lytles garage on here), and usually anything I do he's in helping me with it, and its no different with this project.

 

I knew exactly the style I wanted to build this car in. The Eastwood & Barakat sedan to me is one of the coolest hot rods ever to be crafted. Simple, no frills, badass hot rod. I got to meet and talk to Rick Barakat at LARS a couple years ago, and boy what a cool guy he is. His recreation of it he documented on here looks so neat and I can't wait to see it in person.





Another car I remember reading about as a kid was Josh Shaws 32 sedan. I think it was in American Rodder and the original Car Kulture Deluxe. That car was another one that nailed it and was stuck in my brain.

 

The last rig that really solidified the way this sedan was going was my dads model a pickup. He built it in 2001 and I have spent 12 years riding in and driving it. I pretty much used all the same suspension component (minus quickchange), wheel & tire combo and everything I could to emulate it.

 

Nice looking body,,being I'm kind of a deuce nut I've subscribed!

I wanted to start this thread once I was almost done with the car, so I could just dump all the pics out at once so I wouldn't forget any or duplicate any.

Teaser shot: This was a couple months ago before I pulled the sedan apart for paint.

Now back to the beginning.

I borrowed a straight 32 frame from my buddy dave to use to make the jig. My dad and I set it up in the frame table and then plopped the ASC rails in with model a crossmembers fore and aft and boxed it all up.

 

pete & jakes ladder bar kit with their spring hangers on a smooth back 9".

 

I musta forgot to take pictures of the rest of the chassis setup and trans mount building, but anyway here it is as a roller with the body on and motor/trans in it. Getting the firewall cut and fit in order to mount the body fully, and start whackin this thing.

 

Ill subscribe. Looks like a solid body.

I watched my dad chop my 51 chevy (avatar pic) when I was 14-15. I didn't have any metalworking skills then ( Tig welding, hammer welding, pick/file, metal shaping or very much hammer/dolly experience) and I hated just standing there holding the tig torch or hammer/dolly not really able to really help out. But I learned a lot in that 3-4 year span and used it on this. I took full reign and did the chop mainly myself.

You nailed it. Great build,great to see another younger guy with a 32 ford. Cant wait to see it on the road.

 

Wow! Thanks a lot guys. That means a lot. The chop came out to be 4.5" in the back and 5" in the front with the a pillars leaned back.

 

I wouldn't of cared if you were there for half the day as long as you took those damned ol flatheads . Nice seeing you again.

 

I'm gonna keep updating this as things are slow at work.

This is the first time the car was rolled out after the initial chop.









I got this dash from my buddy dave also. It was out of an old hot rod. It had 6 gauge holes torched out and it was a complete mess. This was the first thing I worked on when I got the body home. I cut out the whole center and welded in the panel to load it up with some SW's.
