Took the wagon to town yesterday: The steam train was running: I built a couple bumper hole covers last night:
When did you get the '57 Jay...?? Nice looking wagon...the train ain't bad either... As many times as I've been to Salina, I didn't even know there was a train there...!!! R-
I got it a couple weekends ago outta Texas. The steam train is here in Abilene. Thanks everyone for the kudos. It was a long search. It needs a bunch of little stuff but I am happy with it. My wife and daughters love it!
Sweet wagon Jay!!! Well, I have been jonesin' for one of these for about 20 years. My first "surfmobile" was a '68 Pontiac Catalina 4dr sedan, then I had a '77 Malibu wagon, then my '64 Impala ragtop. Certainly having Denise's wagon in the barn helped lol. I hope to have it at the KKOA show in Salina. It's a 20 footer- so I hope people won't be too harsh on it. I call it an "Old Navy Paintjob"...
Nice looking project, I just bought a 57 Bel Air wagon for my wife that came from Kansas... go figure.
I got it from Hot Rod Cowboy here on the HAMB. He got hosed on it from a d%&$}bag off eBay out of Rhode Island.
I'm glad you and the family are enjoying the wagon. The shot out the window of the train is pretty neat. I don't want to jack this thread, but as part of the deal for the wagon Jay gave me a copy of his book, "Grandpa's Hotrod." If you fellas haven't bought a copy yet, get it done. His book is one nicely done piece. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I pulled the driveshaft and took it to Ginder Hydraulics here in Salina to get rebalanced. I also ordered the 55-57 trans crossmember kit from Speedway. The hokey-ass trans crossmember the "builder" installed held in with too small diameter carriage bolts and no isolation.
remind me as we get closer to kkoa, i have some old wooden surf racks for that thing, ill bring em with me. i got em from monsterflake a couple years ago.
It was only 103* last night when I was crawling under the wagon. Thanks man! I was wondering if you still had those! I'll have to poser up and strap the 9'-6 Mark Martinson on it....
