Do a search. There have been many threads about early teardrop trailers including the Kit Kamper. I have an unrestored one, that means it needs everything except the aluminum skin.

Look up Dan Sutton on here. He has owned and restored several kits and probably knows more about them than anyone should.

  10. Went to pick up an F100 fronts axle assy from a local guy this morning and discovered his wife had a very original '46 KIT teardrop. It was in remarkable condition - unrestored. Didn't happen to have my camera along though...

I have the plans from the 1947 Mechanics Illistrated for a tear drop trailer. One of the tear drop trailer companies was started from the plans. Send me a email and I will send pictures of the plans. I am unable to post pictures here.

  13. Should have some pic's today as we have plans on picking it up. It looks to have 6 lug wheels and I was thinking chevy truck axle.

Absolute best website for teardrops is www.tnttt.com

I have been a forum member since 2005 and it has everything.

I pull this behind my '32 Chevy Standard four door. It has all I need to enjoy a week out. I use a quiet 2,000 watt generator, 24" TV with a satellite small dish and also a folding LPG stove and a little LPG Ice Box. Simple, light and easy to tow. Comfortable sleeping area for a couple too.

Looks like you got tons of info on the Kit trailers with all the replys.
I also own a orginal 1947 Kit and have built 31 of these little trailers . I sold my business to Dan Sutton ( mentioned in one of the replys) almost four years ago and Dan is presently doing them and selling parts etc.
Good guy to deal with all the way....
The Kit story is a interesting one for sure starting in 1946.........
I sleep in mine a few times each year and mine has the side canvas room that came with it when i got it .

  19. Should have some pic's today.

  20. Here is a few pics of the 46' that we picked up yesterday, great unrestored shape!

What's the tongue weight on these things? I would imagine that the weight of all the kitchen area would counter-balance the forward weight. Is that true?

I would guess about 100lbs, Im able to move it around the driveway by hand by myself

  26. They are very easy to move with one person. 100lbs sounds about right on tongue weight.
