Been keeping busy painting a few engine bits but I thought a polished stainless timing cover might be nice so bought one from the states, had a nice made in USA sticker but shame it was made in 309 magnetic stainless, no point in polishing it as it will only go rusty
Decided to epoxy prime and gold flake it like the rest.

While I had the gun out I decided to flake the B&M deep trans pan I had, polished the fins first, then 2 coats of black epoxy and then the gold flake, it now matches nicely

Do you tape off the fins before paint on a part like the B&M pan cover?

No mate it's too time consuming doing that way and you end up with a hard edge, I just wipe the tops off carefully after every coat with a thinners rag.

Cool thanks thats kind of what I figured when I saw you polish it first. I've heard different theories over the years...I like yours best!

Yeah i've tried all the different ways to do this and found this way by far the easiest, just takes a little time and care to get a great job, but then again what doesn't.

I got my block back yesterday afternoon, immediately gave a good scrub up with detergent and hot water, rifled all the oilways out and dried it with the airline, then masked it up to paint it this evening, hears the results.

Well what a glorious day today has been , Been hard at it all day but don't seem to have got that much done !!!
My rotating assembly will be back from balancing on monday so today was spent making a fuel pump block off plate from a piece of 5/16" stainless, fitting freeze plugs, refitting the gallery plugs, tapping out all the threads and sorting out all the bolts. Took all day but doesn't look much
    :(

Been keeping busy though attending to some of the small jobs, My new tin of Glyptal turned up so I got the inside of the block painted, Also managed to squirt a bit of gold flake on the oil pump.
