Beautiful Gasser. Someone on here should be able to give you leads as to where your Willys maybe now. I have not seen it down here in Aussie. Cheers Sammy

Ref. "What happened?" Whose story would you like to hear.........

Wrong place to do repeated burnouts
    "Throttle stuck"
An elevated level of frustration with dodging golf carts and other wheeled conveyances for 2+ days
    Intake of adult beverage
    A combination of above

Brand new trailer, NOT belonging to the car's operator. The car NOT a racer, a "visitor" from the show side, after the day's races were finished.

Wishing the best in finding and restoring it. I had that article when it was new and really found the car to one of the best examples of a Willy's gasser.

That's too bad. Nice car. I bet the guy that owned the trailer wasn't very happy.

  20. Well we've seen guys make cool Willys gassers out of rusted scraps, it'd be cool to see a build thread reversing these damages!

He went to a lot of trouble to make it ugly, but he did succeed.

Hmmm, that chopped up coupe looks pretty traditional to me. I bet it was influenced by the "Johnny Dark" Grantham Stardust and Allard thing going on in the 1950s rather than the radical custom deal of the day or the gassers of the 1960s. All those hand built and fiberglass sports cars of that era had the type of funky looks that car has. Not my choice for a Willys, but not the worse thing I have ever seen and I would be interested in the history of it.

Looks like they tried to do a early jag kinda thing with it. I'm betting it's a old custom, it has that slight akwardness that the early cars had. It would look a lot better with a smooth hood, and in a dark color. I like the concept of it.

Mousetrap, your car was one of my all time favorite Willys. I had an ex-B/G 41 all steel Willys that the stance was set up like yours. I sold it in '76 to a guy in Iowa. I've tried to track mine down, but no luck. Wish you the best of luck on your hunt.

This thread is awesome! I love all the pics, but really like the old vintage ones. They are great like traveling back in time.

This is a typical 50's custom build, at least he saved it from a crusher. Remember Willys were a poor mans car and before the gasser craze lots were junked, this one it was saved for us to talk about today. Not my style but a lot of work went into this custom and I can respect the builder/hot rodder for that.

  30. I was thinking about this car on the way to work today. Althought it is definetly not my style, I agree that it is most likely an old custom, and was probably pretty radical in its day. I agree that like it or not, someone did alot of work on this car then, and most likely now to restore it. It also has a Whale Hemi in it, so I guess I was a little harsh. Apologies to the owner.
