I can relate to that. I started that way, got it all together and drove with the 6 cylinder in it and didn't like it. Then came across the Desoto hemi and things quickly got out of control.

  2. Yeah I hope I only build this truck once haha

yes. what was supposed to be a cool little parts hauler turned into a semi blown project. I have continued to resist going too far over board, but I wanted it lowered, wanted decent brakes, wanted it reliable, etc and here we are. the Hemi was just the catalyst for it all.

I just sold a 330 to a guy in California. It's going into a 64 Ford pickup. Sounds like it should be an interesting project.

That brings up an issue I have pondered for a very long time, many many street rods run a Hemi of some sort (Dodge, Chrysler or Desoto), however one look through the Speedway catalog or anyone else for that matter and there crap all in there for Hemis. Look at the street rod/classic truck mags and there is bound to be something with a Hemi but all they ever talk about is the "32 Ford" or "something chevy"..

I even emailed Summit and asked them why their catalog features 80% GM, 29% ford and 1% or less for Mopar. They have like 10+ pages for Mustang, 8 or 10 for LS motors and 2 for Mopar. I generally try to buy from anyone who is more Mopar focused if possible.

  10. I know exactly what you mean, it just shows how "easy" it would be to build a chevy right?

Yep...I just let my subscription to CLASSIC TRUCKS ragozine expire last month. In the last two years there has been exactly 2 Dodge trucks featured. The last issue dealt with putting a roll pan on a truck and they used a late model truck in the article. That was it for me. I can get what I need from the HAMB and it doesn't cost me a dime.

I am definitely with you on that. It is the same with all of the rags; I recently bought a 98 3500 diesel and picked up a couple issues of one of the diesel mags over 2 months. On the one hand they talk about how great the Cummins is, but then most of the articles are on Fords and Chevys. I won't even look at Hot Rod or Car Craft as a result and I have subscribed to both in previous years.

Finally was able to get back to the truck, this weekend was motor mounts. I used the original mounts, cut off the frame side and modified them.

If your B38 is going to driven for any distance, say to a rodrun or across the state, might you think about the Mopar version of the GM 700-4-R. My '32 Highboy has a 700R4 behind a vortek350 with 3.73 butt gear, and I consistently get 24 mpg at 75 mph all day. Rods today need to be able to cruise distances without breaking the bank. Just my 2cents. Good luck in your endeavor.

appreciate the comments. At this stage it will be for local driving for the most part. If anything resembling a long haul is anticipated, I will throw some taller gears into it.

ok. so I spent the weekend working on the brakes and steering. This entailed modifying the firewall and doing some repairs before I could actually move forward. What I have going here is I am using the 88 Dakota MC without the booster and I am using a modified Ebody brake pedal assembly. the steering is proving to be the most complicated and time consuming but I am confident I will get it done soon. I am going to post some pictures here so you can see where I am and am going.

Here are some pictures of my firewall access panel.

And onto the steering. I have to change one U joint to a double to get the angles.

I think I got the steering sorted out, what is shown in the pic is gen 1, I changed it up to make it cleaner and hug the frame a little more.
