Features Falcons done right?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by guiseart, Nov 20, 2005.

  1. 2 door S-22 is not too easy of a car to come by, especially a solid one.
Comets in general are getting hard to come by, that aren't rusted out.
I restored one just like that and it was amazing the attention it got at shows/events.
Not digging it, but that's just me.

Great stance! Steelies, or some older style mag would really make the car look even better!

Got the MII buckets back from upholstery today for my '63! Had them covered to match the Taurus donor backseat I got at pick n pull! Also had the headrests deleted to better fit the era of the '63.

Switching the wheels out is a huge leap in the right direction but I would stay away from black wheels unless you are using whitewall tires (and you obviously wont be doing that on that car). The all black look looks strange from more than a few feet away, you cant tell where the wheel ends and the tire begins, it ends up looking weird. See what I mean?

I actually kind of like the black wheel / black tire look; but Wimbledon White wheels would look very tough (competition oriented) and more intentional.

I'm rather partial to this color combo. :)
The 60 series tires are still growing on me though.

I really like that car. Are those 15" wheels?

    Thank you!

I upgraded the front to discs with a CSRP kit so I had to go with bigger wheels. The red one there is one of the stock 13", the "new" wheels are 15"x6.5" from an '80s Crown Vic. 205/60-15 tires. They don't really clear in the back. I had to massage my fenders some. If I'd had the time or money to go with different rims I think I could have cleard with another half inch or so of offset. I seem to still have room on the inside to spare.

We'll see how that paint holds up. It's all Valspar rattle can. Primer, cream base, gold glitter, clear coat.

That's good info. I saved this pic a while back with the notation that it had 205/65R15s, but the wheel wells on the later cars are known to be bigger.

I also have a Maverick axle under there, it's a bit wider than stock.
The wheels had 215/70 tires on them when I test fit. They almost touched. I thought dropping to the 205/60s would give me the clearance I needed. Not quite.

Here's the 64 Sprint I just drove up from florida to pick up in michigan. Been in storage for about 13 years, odo shows 42K miles, I believe original. Been a race car most of it's life. Looks to have a new backhalf, 4 link, frame connectors, 10 point cert cage, narrowed 9" with 4:88 I think. Car has most of the street stuff still on it. Plan to pro street it with a 454 dart block windsor. Always wanted a car exactly like this one is set up. Shame about the tires, brand new goodyears and moroso drag fronts with the stickers still on, but dry rotted from storage. Car is a 4 speed with the pedals and hump still in it. Need to finish building my 64 comet caliente 390 car to sell before I start the falcon.

love them things. I have a set of M/T Duke five spoke 14s waiting to go on my Fairlane and I keep seeing your style of Cragars while doing research on mine in the old car mags and vintage parts catalogs. sweet rims, dude.

Thanks! After another round with the bat I'm pretty sure I'm not scrubbing anymore.

Crazy skinny? That's the wrong direction anyway!

  22. Heard a sad story today at a crappy swapmeet. I was trying to sell but couldn't give anything away, an older couple walks up, in their 60's maybe. Kind of hard to judge age on people here, lots of run hard and put away wet types. Anyway the guy was carrying some chrome slapper bars. I asked about them. said he was going to put them on a falcon he was turning into a gasser, but really wanted ladder bars. I asked what year Falcon, his wife said 62, she was holding a picture of a really nice tan 62 hardtop, with wider tan painted steel wheel with rings and cap. He said it it had a straight axle in the front. I didn't see any straight axle. Here's where the sad part comes in. Seems their son owned the car 30 years ago, and sold it. he died shortly after that. They looked for it all this time and wanted it back. They found it, and when they got it back the old man tore it up to make the gasser. The wife was sick about it. I told her I would have left it alone. He just walked away. She looked like she wanted to cry. So did I. I'll be surprised if it ever gets finished. Even if it does, it's not something the wife will drive, but I bet she would have loved to drive it around the way it was.

I looked at your great picture post of Bowling Green, but we must have a different meaning of the term "bunch of gasser Falcons"? I only saw one in all the pics. A few Comets, but just one Falcon.
