I did this a couple of years ago. I also noticed that Leon Sandcastle was working on a Falcon T and thought this might be something you could glean a few ideas from. I can't wait to see your car when it's done Leon!

    Hot rod bones...
I can see a Pantera drive train in there. Probably rear mounted, twin radiators with electric fans. They would be behind the big rectangular vents in the rear view. The roof is off a '68 Le Mans. The center section would be a piece of the original Apache; including door panels.

  3. Turned into a Ratrod thread. Can we get a Sticky haha

I'm loving this thread. I love design and have always had a soft spot for thinking outside the box and creating something that is just off! My vote is we call them CONCEPT RODS!

Thanks for putting this thread together. I really enjoyed rolling through!
    Cheers!

Last time I saw that car it was at a gas station in Baytown, not running and unloved.

This is the 'Sedoupe' built in Australia in the mid 60's, I think I first saw this at the Sydney rod show in 1967. It was orange metalflake back then, but didn't have all the graphics, which were added by a new (artist Rick Pacey?) owner later.

We never got A or deuce coupes in Australia, so this was an alternative, a cut down sedan body. It was a real eye catching car, and in '67, it was one of our earliest 'show rods' but still, like most of them street driven.

    Cheers, Glen.

That is one hell of a build. Very creative. The pipes down the side are a cool little touch.

I don't know how everyone feels about vintage dirt modifieds but I find them awefully nostalgic. I wish more people where into the old style dirt.

The dirt modified is cool, but I don't think it fits this thread all that much...

  17. I think there needs to be a line drawn between Roth/60's show rods/bubble tops and rat rods. Those Frankenstein Rat Rods are not Roth/60's show rods/bubble tops.

  20. I wish I could get the new boss 9 motor... It would be perfect in a show rod. ImageUploadedByTJJ1368929707.121347.jpg ImageUploadedByTJJ1368929716.362592.jpg ImageUploadedByTJJ1368929724.521239.jpg

Hi, that is our car. It was originally Candy Tangerine. Dave Puhl built it for my uncle.

This reminds me of some of GaryC's concepts. Plenty of potential there IMO !! I like it a lot :D:D

Some are done really nice and others look just hacked together, Everytime I see one I call them "Sliced" car. Due to mainly all of the slicing and dicing they do to make them into their creation.

I've come to the conclusion that the only difference between some(not all) of these cars and rat rods is the amount of bondo and shiny paint.

Here's a picture of a Tucker Speedster that has been on my computer forever. Seems about right for this thread

I couldn't agree less. I know you said "some", but there are a bunch of crappy cars out there from every era, genre, style, etc... I think if we're going to be fair about that statement, it should be made about the entire hot rod and custom hobby, not just these cars in particular.

Well said, I think the biggest problem with some of the cars that have showed up in this thread is that the guys who posted them just don't get what the thread's about. And that 63 chevy makes me sad.:(
