Well i will not be using this cam. I think I'm going to use one of the following: Comp cams XE274H or N+271H, N+271S or C30ZS. any thoughts on these or real world use.

    thanks in advance

Something doesn't seem right with that cam....It looks to me like they got the specs mixed up in the catalog to include duration#s from one place, and lift #s from another cam.....those lift specs look crazy high for a flat tappet cam....unless they misnamed it in the listing and its a solid roller.....Usually a cam with .050" duration around 230* ends up with .510"-.520" lift.....

Howard's web site shows the same specs for 210542-08, I found the cam on there site first but could not get the spec to copy on to the site.

With that amount of lift be sure you get the matching springs and convert to screw in studs and better rocker arms than stock.

already have springs good to .600lift, screw in studs with roller rockers.

Modern cams will out perform the old factory stuff. Give Comp Cams your engine specs etc & let them spec one out for you. Youll be much happier with it.

I like the 108 lobe center as opposed to a 110-112 on a SBF(also sounds a little more wicked), also degreeing it 4 degrees advanced will bring in low and mid-range torque a little earlier. You might consider this also:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lun-10350704/overview/make/ford You can order any of the cams with the 351W firing order also used on late 5.0 H.O.Fords there is an advantage in doing so,here are some good reads on why:https://www.google.com/search?newwi...3349.0j27.27.0...0.0...1c.1.17.hp.asnr3Kme0bU

That's true, but you'd be surprised how well an old cam from the '60's performs, when it was originally designed by an engineering group that is part of a multi-billion dollar company, for the owner's pet project,to settle a vendetta at the biggest 24hr endurance race on the planet.....:)

That's weird...it was supposed to have a quote with it....the one about the modern cams...

    That's a bit shorter on duration than I would have chosen,but I'm a bit of a caveman...lol!
With 220 duration, and that tight lobe separation,I think you may have picked a winner though. It will have decent street manners, and should make pretty explosive midrange power, and idle with a really nice, tough sounding lope to it.The lift is high enough that it should make some pretty serious torque for a small engine.
Keep us posted when you stab it in the motor!Im really anxious to see how it performs.

I would verify the lobe lift, if 543 with 1.6 @ 220 is true that's a hell of a cam.

I was thinking that too...almost looks like 1.7ish numbers,or a roller...The other Howard's cam had unGodly high lift for its duration....maybe they have a glitch in the catalog?I would expect a 220 dur to be right around .490"-500"ish for a flat tappet.....I have a 228* thats .512" lift...?
If its true that that spec is for a 1.7 ratio, with a 1.6 it should be right around .510",which seems about right.

The specs on that cam were given to me straight from a persons(john) mouth no catalog.

When i asked about the odd duration vs lift has said that it was not a error. he said that they don't make cookie cutter cams and that the Duration vs lift had to do with high ramp rates working well a sbf .874 lifter size. i don't get it but that's why i asked these questions and called a cam guy.

guess if you look hard enough you can find the answer to anything

    Q. Why should I care about the lifter diameter?
    A. A flat tappet camshaft's design is based on lifter diameter. The larger the lifter diameter the faster the rate-of-lift that can be designed into the cam lobe.

    Q. What does rate-of-lift mean?
    A. The rate-of-lift is the amount of tappet (or valve) lift in relation to the amount of degrees of crankshaft rotation.

    Q. Why do I want a fast rate-of-lift?
    A. The faster the rate-of-lift, the quicker and harder the air starts to flow in the port. This is the key to a longer, fatter power curve. This is why a roller cam works so well. It has a very fast rate-of-lift.

I fixed it!, That was the flat tappet spec. Check again, it's from Howards website

Engle grinds Chrysler cams with the same thing in mind....the Mopar lifter diameter is huge compared to the Chevy....that Howard's cam looks like its gonna be a snarly little bugger that should surprise a few Chevys...
    Hey,does
That dude out on Walker road still have that R-Model GT-350..?I never saw that car when it wasn't sideways at about 7000rpm....Man I loved that car!

I'm starting to feel the same way. I can tell you this I will be sending business there way anytime i get the chance. Very refreshing to deal with a company that you can get a person on the phone in 2 mins and then get real help and answers to your questions with out feeling belittled or that they are just pulling them from a screen like your at autozone.

+10 for Howard's so far i will let everyone know if this changes

I will post a video once the cars up and running. thank for all the great feedback on my cam choices, that what makes form like this so great.
