    found these pics online...just these two pics.........this thing is BEAUTIFUL, in my opinion. I've seen plenty of camino type conversions over the years, but none done as well as this one...I suspect the pics may have been taken @ Santa Maria, but I am unsure. Surely someone out in HAMBland knows more about this perfectly executed kustom.....PLEASE post EVERYTHING you know about this amazing caddy....

    tranny John bought it, got it running and brought it to the show. From my memory(which is poor) it's an elcamino, with plymouth tail gate, 60 cad quaters, imperial grille, 61 cad front. Can't remember the hood ford I'm thinking.
     
  4. Looks like a coach-built flower car, they used to be quite common at larger funeral homes.

    looks like a 1961 front end, 1960 door skins and quarters, and the Dash looks like the El Camino dash. interesting.

    just got more info,,,,it's owned by the guy that owns my other favorite kustom (a chopped 56 lincoln premier with hirohata merc style side windows),,, a guy named john saltzman (tranny john)..i was told he started with a 59 el camino, and hung the sheetmetal from a 61 caddy nose, and 60 caddy quarters on the car,,the overall effect is STUNNING in my opinion,,AND brilliant...plenty of people have tried similar conversions and gotten it way wrong

    I ain't no expert, but the bed section looks like it did come off a flower car. All the ones I have ever seen were built on commercial chassis, and had four doors, with no dogleg, just like this. I love it.

    that was my first thought too, but all the odd custom touches were not common for the flower cars. also, they almost always have big racks on the floors and bed sides.

    Wow, I guess reading isn't fundamental, it's optional.


    That car's just dripping with vision and proper planning all rolled up in some tasty restraint. I too would love to see it once finished.

    Just calling it as I see it. The tailgate and stainless on the bed tell me that's what the bed section was. Recycled from a flower car. Regardless, it looks great.

    So killer, can't wait to see it finished! Never seen one of those flower cars in person, hell I'd settle for one of those!

    OK, I went over to see John and drop off the tranny out of our 63 Comet, he really does transmissions here in the IE. John found the 'car' and bought it I think at Long Beach. It is a 59 Elco with a bunch of parts mentioned. The hood is a 60 Chevy that almost matched exactally. Now, the rear quarters are Caddy hearse not sedan that way the interor body lines up. When you open the doors, the doesn't just have the skin,, no it has about 4 inches of the Caddy door so the door lines up with the new wider Caddy rear quarter, it had two door lines, one to match the Elco, one to match the Caddy skin. The Elco was/is a 348 4 speed factory car. It HAS to be seen to beleive. It was work that was started I think 20 - 30 years ago.
