I'll be there.....in a renta car. Not only is my car not finished, it won't fit into the overhead bin!
Will be there Saturday...got a room yesterday!in Santa Maria ! At this time last year,I could not find a room closer than 40 miles from the venue..
I haven't been able to confirm anything about the Salinas meet up, but I heard its on. We have a meet up in San Jose at the Denny's off of Tully at 10am: https://www.facebook.com/events/566755650030834/
Santa Maria is a 'must do' for me! I loved all those years in Paso too, but Santa Maria WCK is an experience...not just a great show. John: Can't wait to see you in your new dress. make sure you wear an ACME SPEED SHOP shirt with it.
The reasoning behind cars like the Bat Mobile being there is the let the younger crowd and older to associate the movie cars with the customizers of yesterday. Barris, Dick Dean, Dean Jeffries, Gene Winfield and more were involved heavily in the movie industry
50Fraud is right the Batmoblie isn't a good reason to go the Santa Maria or anywhere else to see the car Barris made for the Batman show. The car was ugly in it's day and is still ugly. There are far better historical custom rides out there that would be better on display at Santa Maria. CRUISER
I did say, "speaking only for myself". I have no interest in the showbiz cars, least of all the Batmobile, because it was just a quickie facelift of a FoMoCo concept car. There were certainly many more creative vehicles done in support of the movies. This isn't a new topic. I have huge respect for the work of the Barris brothers pre-1960, but I think George lost his way when he redirected his interest on the entertainment industry.
This will be my second trip to Santa Maria. Last year it was one of the highlights of the cross country trip in my '60 olds. Though I am bummed I won't be able to cruise my own car, I'm really looking forward to the weekend. I think this is fast becoming my annual California pilgrimage. <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/43265814" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/43265814">Santa Maria 2012</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/alexrosen">Alex Rosen</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
I totalily agree. CRUISER P.S. Royalshifter, I like customs too and your ride would be a good reason to go to Santa Maria.
The "Batmobile" doesn't bother me. But the '80's Cougar with the fiberglass front and rear clip of a '49 Merc was blasphemy last year ! Also several billet mobiles, like the '55 Nomad.
