Welp, after a long hard look I have finally scored my dream car. What you see here is a 41 Mercury Business Coupe (short door). The car will be the next project after my 54 Chevy, but this one will be done as a traditional kustom. Man I'm as happy as a puppy with two peters right now....Here's some pictures for the HAMB nation....enjoy. I'll post some better pictures tomorrow, these are the ones from the seller. Hell I'll even bust out the fancy camera :D A huge thanks to Rick Powell with Show Time Transport for moving this from Alabama for me.

Nice ,but it will take years of work and tons of cash. If you have the skill ,we will watch the game. Who's the owner ,builder of that classic kustom?

Not like the unchopped version you posted would be cheap to build either. Everything is cheaper if you build it yourself...as long as you don't factor your time.

Looks like a solid start! I dig these Mercs more than the "other" Mercs. Have fun with it.

Owner is Bob Tormey and the builder was the Barris Kustoms.

You can see more on it on my site The Custom Car Photo Archive HERE

Good luck with your very difficult build! ;)

Can't wait to see you turn this coupe into a beautiful early styled kustom.

They knew what they were doing in the late 40s early 50s.
    Best era by far.

You going traditional all the way through? Engine etc?

Any kustom regardless, is going to be a difficult build. The car I want to model after is going to be the Bob Tormey Mercury - The Titian. That is why I only wanted to purchase a short door coupe. Bob's is a short door. Rikster thank you for the information on your site, it gives us an insight into that build and Tnomoldw it was chopped at Barris Kustom in the late 40's according to Rikster's site.....

I want to keep most everything traditional. The only thing I would sway on is the motor/tranny combo. The only reason I would sway is because I have a 390 Cadillac motor with an early casting 4 deuce setup already.

    Thank you for the comments

:):cool:Cool Beans. Eric, I would think Mr.Tormey would be happy to share any needed info. You should make a point to see the real car and take pictures to add to your quest. The crowd will be watching and enjoying the build . Tons of pictures will be required to satisfy the hungry subscribers. This could be the biggest build ever on the HAMB, depending how you handle it. Good Luck.:D

What's funny is some guy here just found a 4-door in an old man's garage, with a bunch of spare parts, and was saying he wasn't sure it was worth his time to flip it or part it out, that it was solid but parked-by-Braille, and could probably be had for about $700.

Now a couple days later, you show up with the same make and year, and it's your dream car!

Look through the posts, you might end up getting a great parts donor.

man nice score don't see many 41 mercs and a short door opera to boot, parts are hard to come by but there out there...my 41 ford coupe has a 50 merc flathead , the caddy engine will fit the bill...al

I am already in talks with the gentleman now, but thanks for the heads up!
    Thank you sir
I want to keep it early traditional as far as body styling, but I have a 390 cadillac with a 4 deuce intake that I will most likely use. I've got a line on an individual in fort wayne, indiana that has some parts I'm looking for but he doesn't mess with shipping....so, I might be looking to reach out to people in that area here real soon. :D
Leadsled, I see you are from Alabama, and guess what, it was in Columbia, Alabama.....snooping in your back yard :D

A old guy i go to church with has two 41 coupes and a Tudor. Been sitting a while but all there. The coupes both have columbias under them. He might have some parts. There is no telling what all he has.

This was at the LoneStar Roundup in Austin and is giving me inspiration to do something similar to my 1946 Business Coupe

I said I would leave things alone, until my 54 was done, but I just can't. My grill pieces came in today. They need a little work but man they are nice!! ImageUploadedByTJJ1369788866.316170.jpg
