I 'm not sure of the exact mix. Like I said earlier, it is a candy root beer color shot over a metallic blue base coat. It was painted at an outfit called "Autographx" in Phoenix back in '88. Don't have any info on the shop either. Small shop, so I am pretty sure they used off the shelf stuff.
I drive by one of those little late model Ford box on box wagons every day that is a real nifty super dark brown that looks black in the shade. Check out 2010 Ford Flex Kodiak brown. Someone else also suggested that color off a Lincoln.
Not sure if this is the exact factory color, but, here's a picture of my 58 Biscayne taken last Friday.

That Ford Kodiak Brown is an awesome color, and does look black in the shade. If you like the base and not the metallic you can have it mixed without the metallic/pearl added. Just about every auto manufacturer has a rich brown. Some good mixers out there can mix by eye with just a sample if you find one you like.

Dunno if it's exacly what you're looking for but we used a '70 era Ford LTD color called Dark beachwood met.
I dont think you are going to see the color you want on a computer moniter. Pearls dont translate well on computer screens, sounds to me like what you want is a dark reddish brown with a fair hit of orange pearl.
I bought a 1977 Chevy truck in 1977 that was root beer brown! I still have the truck. I loved the color. In 1969 the brother of a class mate had a 1958 Chevy painted that color and I fell in love with it
Here's the wife's 09 sporty is officially "Two tone root beer" It's pretty nice especially with the gold leaf It looks better in the sun to show some of the metallic Both shades are brown
Choosing a color for a car is one of the most difficult tasks on a build. I had a little difficulty persuading my customer that "brown" would look good on the car. I shot this with PPG Light Candy Rootbeer over black/violet base.
The colors in posts 32 and 36 look root beer brown to me. Post 56, maybe, but the edited image makes it hard to tell. Pretty much all the other ones look like something else (to me).
It must be a computer translation issue. I want the color of looking through a bigmug of rroot beer, not the color of root beer poured out on a table. All of these cars are GORGEOUS, but something doesn't look right on the puter screen. Looks like it is time to hit the house of color booth at the Father's day roadster show this year.
