I'm partial to the mid '60s Plymouths, '64 and '65 are my favorites. Had six kids in my family, so I grew up with wagons. '63 Chevy, '65 Ford, '68 Ford (my first driver), '73 Chevy (junk). Then dad moved in to Vans.

Built this '66 Belvedere for my son when he was 15- he didn't think it was cool and thought the kids would tease him. It went on Ebay 8 years ago. Wish I had it back.

A sedan delivery is not a station wagon. And sedan deliveries are definitely NOT cooler than station wagons.

  6. Howbout a windowed delivery with a back seat...forest service and USAF had 'em.... ? Believe me, I think wagons are the coolest, just the delivery has that one-piece gate and is rarer than hens' teeth plus the Jr Stocker deliveries were unbelievably cool.

  9. Sedan deliveries are the evil twin of wagons. I've owned over 50, so I'm next of kin. Take out the side panels and they become wagons.

Hard getting it down to just 10

    1957 Pontiac Safari
    1954 Chevrolet Corvette Nomad
1947 Cadillac 2 door woody converted from hearse
1959 Cadillac Broadmoor Skyview (someone mentioned a chop, but I think the roof already has a cook rake going)
1958 Mercury Voyager 2 door (a '58 Bermuda 2 door hardtop would be even better)
    1958 Buick Caballero
    1961 Chrysler Town and Country
    1949 Monarch
    1950 Buick Roadmaster Estate
    1938 Packard

The '61 Tbird and '60 Invicta posted are both pretty cool. I've also seen a cool custom chopped 2 door '63 Chrysler. A 1965 GTO wagon would be fun people hauler as well.

  18. Do you realize how stupid this comment sounds ? ... you are confusing fact with preference.

As an example, "I love the look of the '59 grill in this '57! ".... NOT fact, Just preference.... case closed.

OK, certainly not meant to sound stupid, fact is sedan delivery is not a station wagon. A 55-57 Chev is not a shoebox, an A model is not a deuce etc.
Doesn't matter what your preference is a car is a car, a truck is a truck, a sedan delivery is just that and nothing else. It is a body style all of its own:rolleyes: What part of the above statement to you find stupid? I notice that you are fortunate enough to own a 59 Chev sedan delivery ........... Still aint a station wagon.
"Case closed", now that's a preference.
Now lets get back on topic and see some pictures of fair dinkum station wagons
    Happy days

  22. In no particular order, these are ten of my favorites:

    1) 1946 - 1948 Chrysler Town and Country. Bar none, THE best looking wagon ever built!
    2) 1961 Chrysler New Yorker 9-pass hardtop wagon. Fins! Gorgeous!
    3) 1956 Pontiac Safari. Nicer than the Chevy Nomad, IMO
    4) 1960 Chevy Brookwood two-door.
    5) 1955 - 1956 Plymouth Suburban two-door.
    6) 1961 - 1964 Chevy
    7) 1964 Ford Country Squire
    8) 1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser
    9) 1948 Crosley
    10 1948 Ford Deluxe woody

If you're into polishing chrome there is no substitute for '61 Chrysler, '59 Mercury or '58 Buick wagons.

  24. this 59 Plymouth 2 door -- is the coolest wagon I've ever owned. *it is for sale.
the 60 Olds was a nice car I did up for my daughter last year.

check out the 1959 Plymouth Suburban 2 door on my web "garage sale" page:

When I was a kid I regularly heard the tri-5 Chevys referred to as shoeboxes. It actually confused me when I got older and got into this whole traditional/ old school thing and it was used to refer to the Fords. I distinctly remember a classmates t-shirt from around 1981 that had a trio of Chevys and gaudy lettering Shoebox Chevys.
