History Another Day, Another RPU

I sure like that profile shot. So were the hood and fenders used to meet class requirements or what?

 

I'm tossing around an idea here to build a roadster PU out of a '30 Model Chevy 2 door sedan, then place a '33-34 Chevy grill shell on front. Yes, I'm wanting to go full fendered. I have enough open wheel race cars to look at.

 

April '61 HRM was one of the magazines that was in my dad's apple box stash that I used to comb over when I was a kid.

I remember that article well... and used to dream about a family project like that.

It does look much better without that hood and it would be nice to know the 1/4 time as it looks to be at the strip. Getting the whole family into the build physically and financially is quite impressive also.

 

In the picture of the interior, passenger side, there's a box with a cutoff switch and what looks like some type of gauge. Anybody know what the large knob in between the two is for? Pre-oiler pump?

The box is a manual pumped pressurized fuel tank with a fuel on/off switch, thinking the fenders and hood placed the Dodge in a street class at the drags. As I recall the car was from the Portland, OR. area and shown at the Portland Roadster Show.

I actually thought about a street class, but didn't that require a "windshield" of sort?

 

Here is a shot of it from '56 at the Tacoma Car Show, with Ardun power, Jim Miller was the builder/owner at that time. I watched it race in the 60's, after the Desoto engine, Frank ran an injected B-Mopar.

 

Yes it has a very good look with hood off ! has a casual stance sharp piece .

I find it interesting that the photo is from April 1961 and shows a price of .35 cents
for Hot Rod and today 52 years later I am paying .54 cents a copy with my subscription.

An increase of .19 cents divided by 52 years equals .004

I guess sometimes not much really changes in life.

Rabbit .Was called "The Little Thumper " . In a private collection near me .

 

That car has been re-born from many of the original parts, the great part is they did it in both versions. One car has the Desoto, the other one has the injected 426. And the work was done buy one of our HAMB members, Paul Gilbert. It was called "Lil Thumper" and had rabbit painted on it. It was also featured in Car Craft in the 50's, I believe.

 

Thumper was the name of the Rabbit in 1950s Walt Disney production Bambi. And looked just like the one shown here. Don't ask me how I
know that......

 

The 28\29 A grill is throwin my off. I like my "odd rods" to have make matching (or custom) grills. Tgat being said it is a damn cool car
