49-52 Chevy with radiused rear fenders

I am thinking about cutting the rear fenders on my 50 Chevy. Does anyone have any pictures of 49 to 52 Chevs with radiused rear fender?

There's a black coupe that has them with Caddy caps I think... the openings are flared, and it does look pretty good!

 

I haven't seen one of these cars yet that looks right with a radius. To me it gives them a crummy sectioned look. Just my opinion.

Those look like Corvette hubcaps from the late 50's. That's a sharp car and I'ld like to see more pictures !!!

 

I am thinking that car has been sectioned a bit. Not real sure about the radius of the wells on a stock looking car but I have been thinking of doing it just for ease of wheel/tire removeable, but then I would have to build some kind of skirt to cover it.

 

I'm not sure what style car you are going for but here's a few gassers with radiused fenders. None of them are mine but some I used to get an idea of looks. I just did mine on my 50 and think it looks great on that style car. Not too big on the way they look on a sled or standard height car though.

 

Thanks for the replies. I thought it would look good but now I am having second thoughts about it. I was going for the late 60's early 70's look, wide in the back and skinnies in the front. (I dont want the lead sled or gasser look) and was going to jack up the rear (stink bug style) to clear the rear fenders. Then I thought about cutting the rear fenders to clear the tires.I am not sure that I like the radius-ed look.

 

One more vote for don't do it!!

 

It looks stupid on those cars, don't do it.
Honestly I thought it might work until I saw the photos in this thread. Yuck!

I love cut out wheel wells on old gasser style cars.

I don't have pics handy but several yeas ago I put some fiberglass front fenders on a 52 (I think) and used the opening from the steel front fenders to radius the rear fenders and as I remember it worked pretty slick.

 

Kiwi Kev, I have an extra set of rusty fenders i could use. If you have time and pictures I would like to see pictures of that car

 

I do too but only on Gasser/ drag style cars. Makes them look like they were cut for a purpose, stuffing more rubber in there.

Another vote for NO!!! These cars have good sized wheel wells; on our 51 Bus Coupe with 15 X 8 Cragar S/S rims with a slight offset, and G-60-15 tires, the tires fit with lots of room to spare. The car is raised just a tad not that it would really make any difference. Narrow the rear end, and/or tub it, but don't radius the wheelwells. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Done right it looks good. Using a front fender wheel arch is probably the way to go - there's no shortage of rotty fenders to cut up.

Pontiacs of that era have a more rounded wheel arch on the front that could be used.

 

Love both cars! Your dad's 51 really has the perfect set stance. I like the idea on yours of the gasser style wheels and lowered a bit. Something I always thought about doing.

 

boones, Your car looks awesome! how wide are the rear tires? and did you have to narrow the rear end or modify the frame for the tires to fit?

 

Great way to screw up a good looking quarter panel. Hide the wheels with skirts and get it on the ground.
