Does anyone have pictures of different tail lights on 51 Mercury's I am half way through the build and not yet decided on the tail lights. I have the stock ones and I know that anything else would be hard to find over here in the UK but I would like to see what others have fitted.

56 Packard are popular in the '51 fins. However Mercs look good bone stock so change isn't a must.

Yes but then I would have to extend the fin to a point for the Packard lights.
I was thinking a little smaller may be.

I saw some off a '70s Ford LTD that looked good on a '51 Merc... and different. No pics, though.

In UK you might be able to find an early Austin 1800 that had the horizontal lights that wrapped around the 1/4's. They's may look good.
Later units were vertical and looked like and MG, not those ones....

Or you could do the standard "default to 59 Caddy" - bullets.
    Repops are cheap on ebay.

Oh no please no 59 Cadillacs again!!!

What about early fifties Vauxhall Velox?

They'd look good on the side of the fin leaving the end of the fin just wrap round metal.

  14. If someone really wanted to do that, I have the '52 Olds 98 lights cut off with about 15" of the quarter panel, in decent shape.

I can't think of a better recommended thread. You also could join the Hamb Mercury owners social group, some pics there.

Trouble is most of these pics are showing tailights from other American cars. I'm not familiar with the tailights available to you. Look for ones that have the same shape as your fender, like the 54 Merc. Also, oval shaped ones turned so the long side is vertical works.

    Here are my stock lights.

for me it would be the bottom half of a 54 merc lens. the part with the fins. set about 1 inch above the bumper.

Cool pics Cruiser. It looks like the choices in taillights will ultimately decide how both fenders and bumper are finished. I like '54 merc lights unaltered. The look of the '56 Packard lights are sharp.

  25. these are large universal trailer lenses with blue dots ... heated and reshaped to fit the inner contour of the slot cut out

Oh Nooooooooo! That Merc was pictured on the HAMB once. I believe the car was red. Keep the tailights and other parts on a traditional Custom Merc 50's era specific; no modern LTD, Caddy, etc.
