Hi All, Time to address my Firewall and the existing holes that need to be repaired. The 2 pics below show what I need to do. Mine, with all the holes and the other, repaired and painted. So, I'm looking for the best and/or creative solutions. My thoughts were to Mig weld the small holes while backing them up with a piece of copper. Making a few patches for the couple of larger holes, then Mig. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Murph
You have the right idea, I just prefer to tig weld the patches in and then hammer the weld, it grinds off nice and flush. good luck
Doesn't Bob Drake sell a assortment pack of round metal discs for patching holes? I thought I saw them on his site.
I don't own a TIG, so I MIG welded all mine in. Used the copper or aaluminum backer for the 1/4" and smaller holes, and fillers for larger.
now is a good time to weld some studs to the inside of the firewall to mount stuff like AC and a fuse panel , etc.
Back in the days when chrome was cheap, I made a piece of 16ga. the shape or the firewall and had it chromed.
