Those late 1920s Chrysler roadsters make a really nice alternative to the ocean of Model Ts and As. Here's a 1927 hot rod - has a 1972 Chrysler 318 with tripower....

Build some fake Hemi valve covers and most of those trolls won't be able to tell the difference. I dig it, very unique.

sko ford is right. People will snub your Walter P. when they see that S B C. If any on them have an extra 6 grand in the cupboard, kmaybe one will donate it so you can build an early Hemi. I know that stopped me in my little tracks. Good luck, and hope to see your creation some time.

  17. Or you could find one of the millions of 318's and 360's out there for probably less than the chevy cost you . . .

Travis, Great job on the fab work.

Gary, Whomever told you it would cost 6 grand to build a good running early HEMI has no idea what thet are talking about, or is trying to make money off you. I guess if you can't build your own engine and are forced to drop it off at a shop and pick it up 2 months later. Then yes that builder is going to tell you it costs $6000.

I have 3 in the works now and I'm forced to build on a budget. The machine work costs the same (boring, reconditioning rods, turning the crank, new guides and seats, ect) the bearings and gaskets cost a bit more, your only real BIG expence are good pistons but thay don't cost more than a good set of stroker pistons. I have 2 270's the first is only going to have about $1500 into because it was low milage and everything was within specs, the only real money is going into the heads. The second is going to be about $2500 because it needs a bore job and a new set of pistons (found a set of NOS here on the HABM), oh actually it will be about $3250 because my pops bought a tripower and carbs for $750. The 3rd is a 354 and this one is estimated at $4000.

Building on a buget takes time and you have to keep watching for the deals to pop up but it can be done.

  23. Very nice work. A Ford in a Ford, or a Mopar in a Mopar isnt what id call hot rodding. Screw the purists, this is a hot rod site, and sbc can be called traditional. Keep up the great work.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a hater, this is a great build I wish I could do metal fab like that. I just prefer Mopar. Also you guys are right, these is nothing wrong with a SBC, they are like opinion, a-holes, and belly buttons, everyone has to have one. LOL. We have one in pops A coupster.

    Nice work,like the floor.
    Looks top notch!
Typical for the HAMB these days to start telling you a SBC is wrong instead of telling you how nice the build looks.
