Yeah I have a wife, kid, baby on the way and a mortgage. It took me almost a whole year just to get my 61 GMC running and driveable! Save a little here, buy a part there. It just takes time, dude. Be thankful you have a job and a kid! Save your $$$, be patient and when you get your project who knows maybe your kid will be more than happy to help you out! Things in life happen for a reason. When the right time comes, it'll happen. I'm a generation X'er, and I fell victim to the "I want it, and want it now" syndrome. But now that I'm older I learned from my parent's generation about delayed gratification. Trust me man, just be patient and perservere and you'll attain your goals!
X2. Once you have a nice chassis, pick up a good glass body. All it needs is paint (if even that). If steel is what you want, run the glass until you can find and finish the steel body, then swap-a-roo and I'll buy the glass one from you, since it is superior.

What do you do in the winter when it's -20 outside? I went to Wisconsin in January in the bitter cold looking for parts and projects. It was so cold no one was out buying. I had the junkyards to myself. Everyone is hurting for money in January and the prices are half what you'd pay in Summer. Take your kid out Sundays, tin-hunting. Spend evenings on the computor on ebay, Craigs list and google earth. Google Earth can show you where old cars are hiding out. Be flexible: if you find a '32 roadster don't turn it down just because it's not an A;-) I'm 44 and have been wanting my rod since I was 14. I've started many rods, but always ended up having to dismantle them again and sell of the parts to pay the bills. I build hotrods for other guys who can afford them. I just scored my lifelong dream of a '32 Vicky quite by chance and for not much more than that roadster you just missed, so maybe there's a '32 out there waiting for you! Ed

It is always a competition you want to get a desirable car. Whether it is on Craig's list, Ebay, or sitting on the corner with a for sale sign. The first one with the funds gets it. If you want a particular item you have to; 1- always be looking 2- have the funds 3- act now! 4- pay the price I have spent years looking for particular cars. In my youth I found that you have to be ready when the time comes and act on it. Missed some great ones until I figured it out.

When its your car it'll be there. Nobody else will take it away. You missed a great oppertunity, oh well that happens. I bet, right now there is another thread in another forum about how this guy has been looking for 10 years and scored that coupe for 6grand - it was his car, not yours. This will just make the one that you do get all the more sweeter, you'll appreciate it. If they were easy to get, we'd all have one.
Hi Fellas, Just got home not too long ago. Thanks for all the help and insight. I now realize that this is going to be a long process to find the right vehicle. Already run down a few leads from a couple guys on this thread. In addition, took a lot of advice, I started a new job and hour away from me in a small farming town of 200 and made friends with a couple retired guys at the local coffee spot. Already asked them about any model A's in the area, nothing yet, but took the back roads home today on the way back to the shop. Thanks again for all the enthusiasm and advice.
I have to say, I've wanted a 55 chevy hardtop since I was a senior in high school. I was 40 years old when I got one. I haven't sat on my butt waiting around for it, and if I had, I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway, I've built, modified, rebuilt, rehabbed, just cleaned up, and flipped 15 different cars in the last 15 years, plus a couple of harleys....don't limit yourself to just your dream car, get in the game now, with what you can find and afford, then move up in the car world. Sure, some of these guys got their dream car right off the bat, back when they were 20 year old used cars and priced as such...when you want to play with 50+ year old cars these days, you either have to pay up front in cash, or pay as you go with the labor and parts installment plan.

Posting on the HAMB is like talking to a angry wife. No matter what you say, you're a jerk, you're not going to have the last word and you're doing it wrong. I know what it feels to fixate on something and have every opportunity come up snake eyes. Either you buckle down or you move on in some way. If you want an original, good luck. At least you know there are people who can and are willing to help you out. The dice will roll your way on a good deal eventually if you stay at it.
I just sold my third model A. The shit is out there if you look. Okay, if you work 12 hours a day it's hard to look. Buy from someone who has the time to look. Or search the various classifieds and eBay once a week or so.

A lot depends on your skill level.....I have seen some amazing cars come out of a rusty cowl and a welder. Maybe you could build a pinched deuce frame, put some body on it to run until you find your A........if you have the fire in the belly, all it takes is a bench vise and a hack saw.....maybe a mig and a grinder......and a level...remember what old Warren Zevon wrote about (before he died) "I'll sleep when I'm dead". Endeavor to persevere, young gearhead!
