Projects 1930 Chrysler 4 Door Sedan Build thread

OK now that the snow is done (I hope) in Michigan I can start making some progress on the “Hillbilly” Chrysler.

No offence to Appellation Americans I’m so naming it because it was “saved” by HAMB member “hillbilly4008"

I did some horse trading with Joe to get the Chrysler so my daughter and I made the 12 hour one way drive to NY and brought it back last summer.

Anyway the plans are starting to take form so I’ll start posting pics as I get stuff done.

Here are pics of the barn save, our road trip to get it, and some pics of the 1962 Dodge Polara 383 I just finished rebuilding.

 

The orginal front axle was bent so I had a 46 Dodge truck axle that I used up front. I used a Chrysler 8 3/4 in the rear but I need to get it about 2 inches lower in the back. The front should drop some after the big block is installed.

Yes the rims are painted red but they are going to have spinner caps.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to
1. Chop it only.
2. Channel it only.
3. Leave it a Highboy and unchopped.

What do you guys think chop, channel, leave it be? The wife wants to leave it highboy & unchopped. I have been looking at a few on here like Rick Whites A and it looks sweet. We have just always either chopped or channelled em and sometimes both.

Whatever I do it will be clean.

Thanks. Yes my daughter likes to road trip and help out in the garage. She is 10 years old and knows many parts of the engine. She helped me assemble the pistons on the rods by running to the freezer and brining me a pin while I heated the rods. She has also started learning to weld.

 

I would channel and chop it they are a lot bigger inside than a model a

Nice to see something different!Don't see many chryslers.I like the highboy look.

 

Not to many old chryslers being built. I just cut all the glass for a 29. this one is going to be a full touring car.

 

I was going to do that at first (looks real cool) because I wanted the front doors for my 31 coupe. But the fam will fit in a more door much better.

I would just lower it...mopars already look mildly chopped and unless you are short you will have more room in it.....

 

I have nothing but respect for you for planning on putting a Mopar motor in it.

 

Nice! All Mopar too! I would leave the body mostly stock, looks good as is.

I DIG IT!!!!! Personally, I would channel it but not chop. These old Mopars are already way cool...and putting the BRB in it-that is icing on the cake!

It's what I got and what I know, Mopar or No Car!

 

We got the engine and trans set in for a test fit.

 

Rebuilding the holley 600's for the tunnel ram. Building them both at the same time so they are a matched set.

Finished the mounts for the engine and trans. Rolled it out to get the over all look. This weekend I'm going to pull the body so I can box & paint the frame.

 

Coming right along looks great!!...have you decided fenders or no fenders?

 

What did you do with the radiator shell that was on the car in the first photo array??

 

looks great! love seeing more mopars being built, especially when there's no sbc under the hood. i like it unchopped, MAYBE channeled...but what do i know!?

I got this Olds one CL because I want to keep the Chrysler one for my 31 Plymouth Coupe build.

 

Thanks. I'm a do or die Mopar guy and my goal is to keep most of my projects that way. That being said this one will have an Olds grill shell.

Don't get me wrong any hotrod is better than none.

I think it's going to stay unchopped and unchanneled.
