Today is the 2 year anniversary of when I started on my hot rod truck and it is 99.9% done. Now I realize that is not a lot of time but I am retired and honestly thought I could get it done in 1 year. I also thought I could do it for around $10K ha ha ha...
    Does this happen to everybody?

You're fast and got off cheap.

  6. Most of the time ,
On your next one you'll spend twice as much up front for more complete unit and it will take half as long.

  7. Are you sure about that?

Yep. Bought my 58 F100 in August of 2011, still not on the road. Just needs nickel and dime stuff to get it going as a driver but I just don't have the nickels and dimes. Someday though.

It only cost you twice as much and took twice as long? Man did you get off lightly!

Wish I was 99 percent done. It's been 3 years and 10 grand.

Congratulations! When you reach the 99% completion stage, you only have another 50% left to do....

I think your math might be a little off there. It takes 3 times as long and costs 4 times as much............at least in my experience.

if you don't add up what you spent you will never know how far over budget you were. that would take care of half your problem. as for the time thing...just tell yourself you were "taking your time and doing it right".

I think I am about 2 1/2 times where I wanted to be and a year later past my goal. Still got lots to do!!!!!!!!! Between life challanges and just deciding to do a nicer job, I guess it isn't to bad a deal.

Just wait until it's twice as long and twice as much as twice as long and twice as much. And then double it.

    I wish!

Nick's 2nd law of hot rod affordability says that the actual cost is directly proportional to the integral of initial cost divided by project length, plus or minus $10k.

Think of the time as therapy, and the cost as an investment. I know a racer who said it cost just as much money to race today as it did forty years ago. All of it.

It only takes twice as long and twice as much $$ if you're super lucky. Usually its 3 times as long and 4 times as much like stated already. It's literal, no sarcasm whatsoever.

    10X more,with no end in sight,and I'm re-doing a lot of what I've already done..
When you take forever to finish something, all those little fuckups you thought would be OK really come back to haunt you.

What 49ratfink said. Never add it up and it doesn't cost much at all.
