2-1/4 in mufflers

I was looking at getting a dual 2-1/4 exhaust setup. I'd probably still want some straight threw mufflers, but space is tight. Is there mufflers out there with the same 2-1/4 diameter as the piping? Anything I see has a 2-1/4 in and out, but will have like a 4" body which would be to big for my space.

Kinda hard to get a read on read what your looking for. Have you looked at good old glasspacks? They are about as compact as you will get diameter wise and are available in several lengths.

The other thing a lot of guys are big on around here are introductions... Might want to get on that!

Sounds like you are looking for a baffle (that fits inside a pipe) rather than a muffler.

  7. If it is 2 1/4" on the outside, it will be TINY on the inside to do any kind of muffling and that will kill the flow which pretty much negates the point of going 2 1/4" in the first place

We ran chambered exhaust pipes from a corvette with sidepipes. I remember them being about 3.5 feet long and perhaps 2 3/4 inches around. I think they were from a big block 66 or 67 corvette w/side exhaust. That was 30 years ago so pardon me if the details are sketchy. I do remember we shortened them a couple of times to get rid of a harmonic thrum at about 1800 rpm that would make your eyes cross.

What kind of car are you building? Straight pipes (no mufflers) actually aren't bad on a big luxury car (i.e. long pipes and good insulation in the car) but sound like ass on anything smaller than a Lincoln or Cadillac.

If you really need something that is only 2.25 inches outside diameter you're going to have to look into the baffles that mount in the end of the tailpipes. I don't remember the company but there is someone out there who specializes in them.

    +1 , A 4" diameter muffler is small.

  14. I'm just curious as to why standard glasspacks won't fit? Why?

How set are you on where you mufflers are going? Could you move them forward or back farther in the system to gain room for a 4" diameter?

Please reread your above request and explain just how this would work.

P.s. - spell check "threw" (thru).

  18. Hey where's the intro police ????

Of course you can get something for nothing, why not ?
You want 2.25 flow , you want mufflers in 2.25 space
