so after 3+ years i sold my 55 bel air "make pretend gasser". i went looking for a 60ish caddy to replace the void in my life (driveway), but when i saw this on the ol' craigslist i couldn't resist. so here's my replacement 58 bel air.
Thanks! I gotta say it does look better in pics.it is nice though, shiny paint & a nice interior. It was restored in the early 80s & some body work is coming through around the rear wheels. So I'll prolly be doing some paint over the winter. for now I did a front disc/dual master swap & I just wrangled up all the parts to bag it. Hopefully in time for my club's season opener show may 5th.
Hi Mike. Alex told me the 55 was gone and replaced with the 58.And a hardtop ,no less. Looks like a real nice car. Look forward to seeing it at the opener.
yeah, it's 2 tone. i'm looking forward to getting the air ride in it by the opener. just waiting on a set of front bags, that should arrive tomorrow. here's a few more pics.
thanks! ok so i made a lil progress. while i was waiting to get my tank back from my fellow kingpin, who did a killer job handpainting & pin stripping it, all i managed to get done was run the main power wire for the compressors. today, however, i got all the valves installed & the compressors mounted. hope to have it all wired up & in the car by the weekend & finished up for our club's season opener show on may 5th.
that's a really nice looking car, i'm sure i'll get to see it person this summer at one of the east coast shows. best of luck with it, eddie
I'm working on a 58 wagon. I am noticing a lot more of them popping up even 4 door sedans. Nice find.
thanks! ok fixed some leaking fittings tonite & got it all wired up. grounded every thing to the tank, spade connects for all the valves, power blocks, came out nice & clean if i do say so myself. thursday i'll wire in the switch box, master on/off, pressure switch & relays & such.
So after work yesterday I buttoned up all the wiring for the airride. It's all in & working just gotta install the bags & lines now. I also registered the car today & finally got to bomb around in it. So far so good. The carb was a lil pissy from sitting around for so long, but a couple cans of seafoam & a heavy right foot took care of that. The exhaust from the mufflers back leaks in about 8 different places, so I can't wait to get the New exhaust on there. Ah well, soon ehough. Def not m issing the 55.
So far I'm really diggin' the airride. It's like piloting a b movie spaceship around. The exhaust rumble, the humming compressors, blasts of compressed air being dumped combine for sweet soundtrack to a late nite cruise through downtown.
