"During World War II, the famous military US6 2.5 ton 6×6 trucks were built by three manufacturers: GMC, Studebaker and IH. The Studebakers would be heavily utilized in the Southeast Asian Theater and used extensively in the construction of the Burma Road. The Studebaker version was unusual in their use of a vent window, as they used the same cab as the M-Series trucks.....

As part of a lend-lease aid package to Russia, the United States supplied the Russians with an untold number of Studebaker trucks. According to the memoirs of Nikita Kruschchev, Joe Stalin was so impressed with these trucks, he sent a letter of thanks to the Studebaker Corporation, in South Bend, Indiana, stating:
“Just imagine how we would have advanced from Stalingrad to Berlin without them! Our losses would have been colossal because we would have had no maneuverability.”

For someone as stubborn as Old Joe, that is high praise indeed."

The pictures and the quote came from Curbside Classics. http://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog...m16-truck-so-good-even-joe-stalin-owned-them/

'Dual Front Wheels For Cars and Trucks'
    - Popular Science - June, 1940

I imagine, even with this novel
    and unique 'inter-wheel differential'
set-up that this still would have been
a real bear to drive....and particularly
so back in the days before power
    steering!!:eek::eek:

Just my opinion, but one of - if not
    THE ugliest, most egregious and
    stunningly incongruous looking
cars ever produced by dear old Ma'
Mopar! Yuck! What were the alleged
    'stylists' thinking....or more likely,
    drinking or smoking??!!

A quick and dirty 'shop to get rid of those fins, and it seems to make a lot of difference:

You know what they say about opinions....

I personally like the '60 Dodge and I don't care for the version someone posted with the fins removed. On the other hand, I have always disliked the '60 Plymouth design and even more so when they cut the fins off in '61. These days however, they strike me as kind of cool in a weird way.

That pretty much sums up my opinion of ALL of the Finned Wonders from '58 to '61, no matter who built them. How Ford and GM went from the amazing cars of '55,'56 and '57 to the abortions that followed causes me to wonder about the water supply in Detroit...
