Brand new dz302

Here are some pictures of a brand new , never started DZ302.A friend of Mines Brother bought this years ago from GM for $5000.00! My friend got it when His brother passed away. I was told that He turned down $40,000.00 for this engine,He has carb to pan, and plans to put it in his Dads '73 Z28

 

.......I think he should have sold it.

Does your friend know that the DZ motor was strictly for a '69 Z28 and totally wrong for the '73?

 

high school tall tales. We all told at least one.

 

The only thing that would be less wise (and agreed, it sounds like a tall tale- it's just a 302 fer crissake) than refusing $40K, would be offering $40K- again, it's just a 302

It's also not HAMB-friendly, well past '65

For $40k, I would have sold it so fast, you'd think I had gone plaid.

How can it be a DZ if the pad isn't stamped?

I thought all of the dz engines ,which were all 69's, had the long pad on the front of the engine?

 

Anybody else think it looks like #8 is more than 3" down the hole???

 

Why would you put a 40K (not) motor in a $1,700 dollar car?

 

I was thinking that also, plus you don't buy a block from GM that was never installed in a car with a motor code on the pad anyway, it would be considered a service replacement engine and not really worth anything more than that.

 

Nope it is 3"s down the hole, trust me I just had my eye balls calibrated!

I even doubt the $5000 purchase price, a friend of mine bought a brand new complete 2nd design L-88 in late summer of 1969 for $2300, He just parted it out over the last 5 years. I told him he was crazy to take it apart the thing had never been started. I believe he sold the heads 2 years ago bare for $3500.

 

Hate to say... but look at the pad up front.... its not the long narrow style like the older small blocks... see how its square....... they never did that till later 70's... sorry

 

All I see is a SBC with some dome pistons.

 

Sell that Boat anchor and get a real 302 with the Distrbutor up front. Roller blocks are cheap and parts galore. Go fast with less $$

 

Help me what is a DZ 302

 

High reving, solid lifter, small block option for 1st gen Camaros.

 

I think they were ostensibly developed for use in the Trans-Am Racing Series and I believe they were available as early as 1967 in a few Z-28s, for sure by '68 and probably most popularly in the 1969 Camaro.

 

Homologation.
