I made this for my Buick powered 29 A out 2 pieces of a corvair air cleaner.....

 

Good job !!!! Nice looking , But you got to much money in it . Now you can't get a BRAVO burrito !!!!!

 

I made these out of 3 single egg frying pans from Wal-Mart. Cut the handles off, turned em upside down and put the lids on the bottom. I ran these for a while but always go back to the the three louvered ones I got from Kellys Hot Rod Parts a few years ago.

 

Heard U were buyin @ "Bravo Burger" this year, @ least that's what Dixie told me.

 

I spent some time looking back at your tech how-to on the 61 Olds air cleaner and all I can say is really nice work!!

How did you mount the housing to the carb with no visible fasteners?

 

The base and filter are generic "street rod" oval cleaner. Inside the top part, I had to make some triangular pieces of sheet metal to meet (& seal) the air filter itself. Because the top of the filter is not flat. Then I took some 1/8" x 1 plate, and welded it inside the top, at the front and rear, inside the filter element, with long threaded rods welded to them. The threaded rods go down into the base of the air cleaner to tighten it up, nice and hidden, but easily accessible.

 

I had the same plan,was going to use the early model air cleaners.

Not custom made or modified but custom painted by Ken Smith. I pianted it with the same paint as the above beltline on my '50 sedan delivery then Ken put some of his art work on it.

Fatabone that's pretty slick. Looks right at home. Does the filter element not need to be exposed to air? I was always under the impression that air needed to pass trough the filter.

...ultra rare and wildly expensive mini 'Bee Hive' air cleaners. Well, I lied. Local Goodwill store cast aluminum candle holders...total break-the-bank price? $3.95 for two. I grin every time I look at them....

 

I have no idea what this was originally from. Looks like an early dry element filter base. I replaced the bottom section with one that fits 97 and 94 carbs. I found the top piece in the junk under my bench. rattlecan black, a few stripes and its finished.
Not very fancy, but...I like things simple.

 

that is beautiful...but how does it keep junk out of the carb? The top is open so wouldn't dust and goop just come in through the top?

 

Oops, forgot the text. Cast from my patterns. I used to sell a few, but the price of castings has gone through the roof. By the time I polish them, it works out to about $1 an hour.

 

...the bells are cast aluminum then polished?

 

I found an old pot lid with a cool design im going to use for my hudson ive been holding onto it for the right car just waiting for the filter i ordered to come in so i can make the base.

Hey Dooly you saw i did.nt put the top on the 10''filter yet had to get the correct hold down bolt!!!!! the lid is on now

 

THAT my friend is one of the purdiest flat heads I've ever seen! Nice work

14" edelbrock base put inside and held in place with silicone sealer.
