Some dont like the faux patina. I feel build what you like. I have seen some I really like and others not so much. For some reason when I see old pickups with patina and the doora have a shop name or logo I totally dig it.

Patina is rust. No way around it. We all know the cars on here are old so there's no need for rust to prove it. All it tells me is the owner doesn't have enough pride in his car to put a coat of paint on it.

The patina fad is fading (no pun intended). I used to like it, but too many fake patina jobs out there has ruined my taste for it.

  15. Patina is oxidation, whether it is metal or paint,,I prefer old paint that shows it's age. HRP

  16. and there you have it

  17. Pride? Some of us don't have the dough to get rid of our patina. Yet.

For myself I hate it, why work your butt off building a cool car then make it look like something you pulled out of a junkyard. Some say cool, I say sad!

Old, original, paint that is worn over the years, is cool! Straight up rust or some wet sanded down modern paint job is a waste of time and is lame! It is not fooling anyone, just makes what could be a cool vehicle look like a pile

  21. I would rather see a rough rod being driven than a perfect paint job on a trailer.

  22. I think the question here is....

    Is patina traditional?

IMO Damn right it is, but rusty rods (to be nice for a change here :D) is not. Back in the day people would paint their ride with a broom and house paint before cruising the strip with a rust bucket. It was all about style and what everyone's opinion of the car was. If it had faded paint okay but rusty as hell was a no no. Just my $.02 as usual

Agreed! It would be really awesome if we all had the exact same style hot rods. In fact, we should all crush our cars, buy a glass 32 body, paint it red, put a 350 in it and go to car shows and argue about who's 32 has the most orange peel.

Actually from the car shows I have been at the patina style cars are on the upswing, un-drivable unsafe junk style rat rods are on the outswing. This was my last build before the buick, got bored with it pretty quick. I was constantly looking for door dings. Paint is overrated!

After hearing what people are paying for paint jobs now a days I think I am leaning more towards PATINA.....Fake or not... I just can't see paying the kind of BIG BUCKS that some people do. Call me a tight ass but that's my 2 cents....

Cut and buffed glassy paint just doesnt look right on a hot rod to me. Kinda like a decent looking girl with a ton of make up on. Just doesnt look right.

Agreed. I would rather but my lack of funds into making a driver than showing up as the passenger in someone's "show" car.
