Ugly as hell, you should get rid of it. Bring it to Kansas and I will make sure that its properly disposed of :)

Thanks alot, guys -- I appreciate the kind words!

I'm still unsure. Some friends will be racing their new Modified at our local dirt track that weekend --- it's the first race of the season and I'd like to be there with them.

I just about have the hood done. The last couple of nights I worked on the hood top. The previous photos show the template in place and below the shape is transferred to sheet aluminum. I used .0625 type 3003 Aluminum.

Cut over-sized so I have extra material to work with..

Used an old truck driveshaft to start forming it..

Xderelict on here gave me an idea to use the driveshaft as sort of a brake. I tack-welded it to my stand and set it up with spacers, rectangular tubing, and vicegrips. It worked great for the tighter radius bends and getting the final shape.

After lots of trimming, grinding the front/back edges with a 40-grit disc, and fine-tuning the shape, it fits.

I still need to trim the corners and bend the 90-degree lip at the bottom, where it meets the hood sides.
Also, since I moved the grille shell down (in relation to the cowl and original Model A hood line), this is what it looks like. At some point I'm going to do some cutting on the top of the shell to make the slope match the hood, instead of being flat/level.

tell ya what, take the roadster to the HAMB-B-Q and for the low low price of riding shot gun i'll split the gas with ya.

Doing some creative math that's like going by yourself but getting 30+ mpg! haha

  18. Hey it's a Hot Rod !! It does not have to be perfect!!! But it looks good!!

Tim, you should drive your car to the HAMB-B-Q.

Finished fitting the hood last night, bent up the 90 degree flanges, and installed the latches.

Fantastic, just fantastic. Now that is a hot rod. I look forward to see the car in person at the Roundup.

The project progresses and is looking good. Isn't it a good feeling when after all the planning and work involved, the hood actually fits. Wondering what you have planned for the hood sides--louvers, scoops?? I approve the headlight change. See you in DesMoines.

Thanks alot, guys -- it's been a long road and I've had alot of help along the way.

Hi, Vance! A friend here in Omaha is going to punch louvers in the hood sides. Since they weren't too hard to make, I'm planning to do another pair to send down to Alex (Metalshapes) in Tucson, AZ, after the Lonestar Roundup trip, and have him work his magic.
