Hot Rods Is there a period MODIFIED thread?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bodi, Mar 10, 2013.

  1. Yeah, I'm rolling around some ideas on how to get the proportions I want for a two seater version. Trying to find some stats on that Chevy frame, and the front axle width. I think I'm going to make the front horns out of 2x3 and 2x2 with some trussing.

There can never be too many modifieds or too few 59 Chevy 4 doors.

I have quite a few photos of modifieds that I have found online and saved. Here's a good one...

Cool! I had no idea that the Gerrick three springer was a 60+ year old car. When I first saw the shots of it with some mountains in the background, I just assumed it was a more recent build. I like it a lot.

I've collected some parts to build a GMC version of a 3 spring mod; '29 Chevy frame, Model A rear crossmember, 302 GMC six, '29 or '30 GMC grille shell, a long 34-36" four section hood, '39 Chevy front end, brakes & steering column, '56 Chevy pick-up rear axle, six '29 Chevy wire spoke wheels. Getting closer to a whole project.

    Later, Kinky6

  8. Thanks for the rear shots Alchemy, those answered all of my questions, and thanks to everyone else for keeping up the work.

Mike is actually building a real bitchin' modified right now too, Bodi. It's what KIRK! started on before the Legion special, and is/was called the "Desorta modified".

bodi, do you need some measurements from a '29 Chevy frame? Front horns, spring spacing, etc?

    Let me know, Kinky6

My build is still a pile of parts. Haven't worked on it in a few years.
